Suzuki Other description

I bought this scooter used in 2003, a good runner that always starts. Used it as a pit bike at Road America, needed a bike with a DOT plate at the track. This is a great little scooter, just don't use it any more. Please reach me if you have questions. Extra info:

The Suzuki FZ50 was a step-through commuter moped, described by a Motor Cycle News road tester in 1979 as "the most attractive moped I've seen and must take the run-about class into a new area of perfection" with "sporty alloy spoked wheels" but having small, "ineffective" legshields with footpegs, not footboards.

Produced by Suzuki, it was known by the nickname "Suzy" in UK, but in other markets as Youdy. It had a 49  cc two-stroke pivoted engine integral with the transmission, and a coil-over damper mounted to the single-sided swinging arm enclosing the chain final drive.

Restricted to 30 mph and with an automatic transmission, the engine used Suzuki's CCI oil-injection lubrication system with underseat separate fuel and oil tanks, a fuel gauge and front and rear carriers.

There were no pedals, unlike most mopeds, instead using a left-side mounted engine kick-start, normally found on larger machines, with a lock-out operated by the handlebar-mounted rear brake lever.

Suzuki to Close Spanish Motorcycle Factory

Tue, 06 Nov 2012

The digital ink is still wet on news of American Suzuki declaring bankruptcy and shutting down its car business to focus on powersports and marine products, and now there’s more bad news for the Japanese manufacturer. Suzuki announced it will close its motorcycle factory in Gijón, Spain, in March, 2013, shutting the company’s sole European production plant. The factory has been producing motorcycles and scooters for Suzuki since 1984, with the manufacturer taking 100% ownership of the factory.

Intermot 2012: Suzuki V-Strom 1000 Concept Breaks Cover

Tue, 02 Oct 2012

Today at the Intermot show in Cologne, Germany, Suzuki unveiled its V-Strom 1000 Concept. Heavily rumored to receive similar styling updates as its V-Strom 650 stablemate, Suzuki instead turned to its 1988 DR750S, the company’s first big on/off road machine, for inspiration, taking many by surprise. The updates are more than just skin deep, as the entire motorcycle has been redesigned.

Knee-high land-speed record device

Wed, 28 Jul 2010

This mad looking motorcycle is a land speed record device that never turned a wheel in anger. It was built by the infamous Dave Manning in 1968 using a discarded drop tank from a Korean fighter plane. Manning built a space-frame chassis inside the tiny teardrop and also managed to find room for a Suzuki T500 twin cylinder two-stroke motor.
