Priced to sell! The Original BMW Superbike BMW’s break with its air-cooled tradition started in 1982 when it introduced the K100, their first inline liquid cooled four cylinder production motorcycle. In September 1988, after continuous development, the company announced the upgraded, fully faired K1. While based on the K100, the new K1 was in fact a different animal altogether. The K1 received the new four-valve cylinder head (BMW’s first-ever 16 valve motor) and an improved Bosch fuel injection system making it, at 100hp, the most powerful production bike that the company had ever built. The K1 was designed as a high speed autobahn tourer capable of cruising at 100 mph for hours on end. Early tests on the bike measured performance times of 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and a top speed in excess of 140 mph. The K1 also received BMW’s new Paralever swingarm (which helped to eliminate the rise and fall from acceleration and deceleration common to shaft-driven motorbikes). All US bound K1’s were made standard with BMW’s ABS braking system. In addition, four-piston Brembo calipers on the K1 replaced the K100’s twin units up front along with a thicker rear rotor. The K1’s frame, while similar to the K100, was also strengthened substantially with larger diameter tubing and slightly revised geometry along with a longer wheelbase to improve stability at higher speeds. In addition, much of the bike’s characteristic high-speed calm was thanks to the K1’s unique bodywork. The wind-tunnel-tested fairing was measured to have the lowest drag coefficient of any production motorcycle to date. Built from 1988 to 1993, only 6,912 K1’s were sold worldwide. Still , the bike was a marketing success as it helped to shift public perception of BMW from a manufacturer of reliable tourers to a producer of modern high-speed sport bikes. Bike is pictured without top case, but it is on the bike now. It has been Garage kept throughout and kept looking nice and clean. Has all available features with the exception of navigation. The stock exhaust only has 600mi on it as I used an akropovic after it's 600mi service. I will be taking it to the BMW dealer for service so that will be up to date and the title is clear in my name. There is a minor blemish to the side view mirror case from shifting the weight off the stand while I was on it in my driveway and my skinny leg wasn't enough to keep it upright. I was very happy that slow roll didn't do much of any damage. 2015 BMW S1000XR Spied – Inline-Four Multistrada Rival on the Way
Mon, 31 Mar 2014Spy photographers have captured a new BMW adventure-tourer powered by the S1000RR’s Inline-Four engine. The new model, which we expect will be called the 2015 BMW S1000XR, will be more road-oriented than the company’s bread-and-butter GS line, offering a competitor to the likes of the Ducati Multistrada 1200 or the recently reviewed Aprilia Caponord 1200. Other publications that have published the spy photos (Insella.it and MotorcyclistOnline for example) have put forward names such as S1000F or S1000 ADV for the new model, but a trademark application BMW filed with the USPTO suggests it may be introduced as the “S1000XR”.

The landmark liquid-cooled 2014 R1200GS follows a lineage half a million strong of flat-twin adventure tourers tracing back to the first R80G/S produced in 1980. “As a plant it is a privilege for us to continue building on the successful history of the legendary flat-twin GS,” says Marc Sielemann, head of the Berlin plant which produces the bulk of BMW’s motorcycles since 1969.
BMW “Persistent Erection” Lawsuit Dismissed
Tue, 18 Mar 2014The Superior Court of San Francisco has dismissed lawsuits against BMW and Corbin-Pacific Inc. brought on by a man who claimed a motorcycle ride gave him an erection that lasted for several months. The story made headlines and drew much ridicule after the man said vibrations from his 1993 BMW K1100RS and Corbin aftermarket seat resulted in a case of priapism, a condition in which a penis remains erect for a prolonged period of time.
BMW Recalls 4,453 Motorcycles and Scooters for Side Stand Switch Problem
Thu, 13 Mar 2014BMW has initiated a recall on several motorcycle and scooter models because of a problem with the side stand switches failing in wet conditions. The recall affects 4,453 vehicles from the 2013 model year including the C600 Sport and C650GT scooters, F700GS, F800GS, F800GS Adventure, F800GT, R1200R and R1200GS. According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, water may enter the side stand switch on affected vehicles from riding in wet conditions or even from vigorous washing.

BMW Sets February Sales Record With 18.3% Growth

The German manufacturer reported sales of 8,098 motorcycles and scooters in February, an impressive 18.3% increase over the 6,847 units sold in the same month last year. The record February followed another record in January which saw a year-on-year increase of 12.9%.

BMW Names Schaller New Head of Motorcycle Development

Built in 1918, the historic site in the Milbertshofen district of Munich, Germany, housed BMW’s original aircraft engine production plant.
