EBR Nation Part 1: The Making of the 1190RS

Erik Buell Racing has released the first in a new series of videos about the new 1190RS race bike. The first video is more of a prologue to introduce the weekly series, but later segments will feature interviews with Erik Buell and racer Geoff May, and a behind-the-scenes look at the development of the EBR 1190RS superbike. If we’re lucky, we might also get a look at what Buell has in store with its upcoming RX, SX and AX models.

Erik Buell Racing 1190RS and KTM RC8R Make AMA Superbike Debuts

The July 8-10 Mid-Ohio round of the 2011 AMA Superbike series featured the debut of two new superbikes, the Erik Buell Racing 1190RS and the KTM RC8R Race Spec. Chris Fillmore (11) finished an impressive seventh place in a red-flagged Race One for KTM-HMC Racing while Geoff May (99) placed eleventh on the Amsoil EBR 1190RS. The second race saw both riders finish in the top ten with Fillmore in ninth and May in the ten spot.

Zero Motorcycles Promotes Askenazi to CTO

Zero Motorcycles has promoted Abe Askenazi to the position of chief technology officer. A former Buell engineer, Askenazi joined Zero Motorcycles in 2010 as vice president of engineering where he played a vital role in developing the company’s 2011 line-up, overhauling over 80% of Zero’s existing electric motorcycle line-up while adding the Zero XU and street legal versions of the Zero X and Zero MX in just 10 months on the job. “Abe’s ability to effectively execute on an aggressive product development plan, select the best new technologies and rally his team is remarkable.

Buell Assets Liquidation About to Begin

In what is sure to be a painfully long and tortuous process for the former Buell Motorcycle Company (from Eric down to the graveyard shift janitor), the final act of its disassembly will be handled by Grand Rapids, Michigan – based Liquid Asset Partners. In a release from Liquid Assets, the company states the “liquidation sale will start January 28th and run everyday for 30 days until everything is sold. Regardless of cost or loss, millions of dollars worth of equipment and tools will be sold directly on the factory floor.” But don’t think this is just a sell-off of the last few skeletal remains of bikes.

The year is coming to a close so let’s take a look back at the top stories of 2009 in the world of motorcycles after the jump. Buell Motorcycles Shut Down Harley-Davidson made the shocking announcement Oct. 15 it would discontinue Buell Motorcycles.

Last Buell Motorcycle Rolls Off the Line

The mournful expressions on the Buell workers’ faces in this photo say more than words can. So long old friend. Harley-Davidson announced yesterday that the final bike built by Buell, a Lightning XB12Scg, rolled off the production line on October 30.

Buell Motorcycles Shut Down [video]

Update Nov 13: Last Buell Motorcycle Rolls Off the Line An emotional Erik Buell has posted a video on the Buell Motorcycle site officially announcing that Harley-Davidson has shut down all Buell motorcycle production.  Harley-Davidson will honor all warranties for Buell owners, Buell dealers will still be selling the limited supply of bikes that are currently on hand.  Visit Motorcycle.com News for more details. Jon Bunne, Buell’s Sr. Test Engineer, explains how to set-up your suspension on the Buell 1125R according to your riding style, preference and when riding with a passenger or heavy gear.  Bunne, recommends adjusting the suspension accordingly and demonstrates how to do just that by following the settings that are listed in the owner’s manual. The story behind the 2010 Buell Blast Motorcycle [video]

If you haven’t heard, or have seen the new 2010 Buell Blast, you should check it out before viewing the video below. Buell has re-branded itself over the last month or so and have been taking a very close look at themselves.  Not only did they change their logo, but they decided to put to rest a motorcycle that just didn’t fit what they really wanted to be making.  Sport bikes. So the 2010 Buell Blast is a crushed hunk of metal signifying the end of that model.  There will be no Blast in the future so don’t hold your breath!
