Flying Motorcycle

Tue, 02 Dec 2008

Back when we were young, the transportation of the future seemed to promise flying cars. Yet, decades later, we’re still waiting for them. But perhaps our upcoming transportation in a three-dimensional realm will come from a flying motorcycle.

BMW Helps Vertically Challenged

Tue, 02 Dec 2008

No matter where they go or what they do, it seems that people who are vertically challenged always get the ‘short’ end of the stick, pardon the pun. Historically, if a pint-sized person wanted to get into the hobby of motorcycling, their choices were limited to bikes like the Suzuki Marauder, Ninja 250 or HD Sportster (the thought alone makes my back hurt.) BMW Motorrad now has good news for riders who either need or simply prefer a lower seat height, but do not want to compromise on model choice. BMW is the first motorcycle manufacturer to launch a range of models that can be ordered from the factory with lowered suspension – to provide customers with low seat height options.

New: Revit off track textile jacket

Mon, 01 Dec 2008

Although the one pictured doesn’t look that worn it’s a recent replacement for the one I’ve been using ever since I passed my test two years ago. The previous incarnation met its fate in Africa at the hands of a knobbly tyre and chain. It has been in constant use this summer.

2010 Honda Fury: New Honda Chopper Motorcycle?

Sun, 30 Nov 2008

UPDATE (May 19): Official 2010 Honda Fury Pricing UPDATE (Feb 27): The Honda Fury Review is finally here!!! Some may baulk at Honda’s description of the Fury as “radical.” Sure it’s not mind-blowing in the way a $60K custom can be, but it’s worth noting that not even Harley-Davidson has produced a bike with a rake angle so stretched or a wheelbase as long. So let’s admit that, for the normally staid Honda, the Fury is radical.

96-foot-high MX Jump in Vegas

Fri, 28 Nov 2008

While most of us will be imbibing too much champagne and looking for drunk chicks to lock lips with at the stroke of midnight this New Year’s Eve, FMX star Robbie Maddison will once again be making history. Having broken the Guinness World Record for a motorcycle with a leap of 322 feet, 7.5 inches over the length of a football field during the 2007 Red Bull New Year’s Eve event, Maddison will attempt an equally challenging jump this year. The 27-year-old Aussie will jump his bike more than 120 feet high and land on the top of the 96-foot-high and 40-foot-deep replica Arc de Triomphe in front of Paris, Las Vegas.

“Revheads” Save Us from Ourselves

Tue, 25 Nov 2008

With long-standing names in the retail world evaporation like the morning dew, further news of major US automakers begging for billions is just plain depressing. This got me pondering how major Japanese and European automakers managed to avoid the same fate. My supposition?

Ariel Chopper on eBay

Mon, 24 Nov 2008

Normally when I think of a custom chopper, I envision something like Wyatt’s Captain America bike or even retro re-creations like the Harley Davidson Cross Bones. After all the act of chopping normally referred to forks and frames, not chopping wood. A unique ride recently added to eBay breaks from this tradition with a wooden hot rod built around the engine and transmission from a 1952 Ariel Square 4 motorcycle.

Motorcycles Linked to Impotence?

Mon, 24 Nov 2008

A recent medical study is warning motorcyclists about dangers linked to the hobby that your mother never talked about. The study suggests that men who ride motorcycles are at risk of impotence and urinary problems due to the vibration of the engine damaging nerves in the area where their bathing suits cover. The study, published in the International Journal of Impotence Research, was carried out by doctors in Japan and found most motorcycle seats put excessive pressure on the perineum, that area between the anus and the scrotum.

Even if you’ve never played it, chances are you are familiar with the controversial Grand Theft Auto (GTA) video game franchise. The much anticipated GTA VI was released earlier this year where players are once again encouraged to steal cars, boats and helicopters but also motorcycles with reckless abandon. Evidently this type of behavior has reached epidemic proportions in Brazil as authorities there have announced a plan for new vehicles to be fitted with tracking devices.

Million Dollar Motorcycles

Sat, 15 Nov 2008

During this time of economic uncertainty, there are many who are tightening their belts and refraining from the purchase of that much sought after and coveted bike of their dreams – myself included. This has driven up the sales and therefore production of more economically feasible transportation options such as lower displacement motorcycles and scooters. There are however other privileged individuals for which money is no object whatsoever.

Rossi vs. Schumacher

Fri, 14 Nov 2008

When I was a kid, my friends and I would always have this debate on who would be fastest in a race, Superman or the Flash. I always felt that the Flash would be faster because speed’s his thing. He wears a lightning bolt on his chest because he’s as fast as lightning.
