KTM’s 2025 390 SMC R brings Supermoto attitude to a smaller, more accessible platform. Designed as the younger sibling to the 690 SMC R, it keeps the focus on agility and urban performance while making the formula easier to live with—and far more affordable. At the heart of the 390 SMC is a 399cc Single-cylinder engine, part of KTM’s new generation of lightweight thumpers shared with the 390 Duke and 390 Adventure.

One of these rules states: if someone offers to loan you a bike while you’re in town visiting, you say, “Yes, please.” And so it was that I found myself standing next to a KTM 250 Duke, calmly contemplating my odds of surviving SoCal freeways on a 30-horsepower (claimed, at the crank) bike.
