BMW R-Series description

1968 BMW R50/2 with 19,000 kilometers on odometer. This is an original paint survivor bike showing it's age some  but a great rider. The handlebars are not the u.s. style we see here stateside but may be correct for the home market or have been replaced at some point but they are very comfy just the same. This bike has been fitted with /5 turn signals and while not the period correct bar end signals they are age related and work just great so i left them on.
i was told the original owner who passed away brought this bike back from germany with him in the very early '70's and i purchased it from his son. I cleaned the oil pan and added fresh oil and gearlube . The carbs were cleaned and new plastic floats from vech were installed along with a new coil, wires and caps. The tank was flushed and new fuel lines installed. There was some piston slap so the cylinders were sent to chris chambers where he bored them and fresh pistons/rings were added. At this time the valves were lapped and i believe new springs were used too.
New headers were mounted and some used but very nice , original spec , mufflers were bolted on. The speedo works but the odo does not so exact mileage is not known. The rims ar very nice but this machine couls use the hubs glassbeaded, s.s wire brushed and new spoke/nips to make it look a lot better and new tires + tubes should be mounted as these, while showing great tread , are old. Also included with this bike is your option of a wide or narrow dual seat along with the solo seat shown in pics.
Just this summer a friend who bought a '67 R50 from me 2 yrs ago was home and we took it for a ride. He really thought it ran and handled great and i think it runs better than my other '68 R50 i've had for 36 yrs now. I don't "need" 2, '68 r50's i reckon so this bike is offered up . This bike started every time on 1st or 2nd kick and has put smiles on my mug every times it's been on the road.
The police style bags need some attention as the thread has rotted in places...see pic. These bags are not often seen this side of the atlantic.
As is often said of the R50's being the smoothest, but not the fastest , of the BMW's models of the '50's and '60's and i've enjoyed mine and will continue to for yrs to come...good lord willing! lol
Overseas sales are possible but please ask before bidding or your bid will be cancelled.
Enjoy the pics and bid with confidence as my feedback reflects integrity. This machine should make someone a great rider with a fair reserve while being a good investment as prices for these unique bikes keeps climbing.
I can recommend an insured (cool million) , covered , reliable shipper if needed.

According to Italian site InFullGear, the driver veered into the oncoming lane while approaching a curve before losing control and running into the parked motorcycles before bouncing off and coming to a stop in the middle of the road. The crash injured three people, though thankfully none of them were seriously injured.

Despite the nomenclature, both models are equipped with liquid-cooled and fuel-injected four-valve 798cc twin-cylinder engines, just like the 650.
