Honda CB description

 Up for auction is a 1972 CB500 with an '82 CB650 engine and carbs swapped in. The VIN indicates that this is a 1971 production date CB500, as do some of the features on the bike, such as the small reflectors, rear fender, small tail light, etc. The original engine #'s and the original gauges also pegged it as an early bike.

 I've owned this bike since 2010, when I pulled it out of a 28 year slumber. I got it running and gave it a full resto-mod treatment, first with the 500cc engine, then with a 550cc engine. The latest iteration includes an '82 CB650 engine with VB44A carbs. This bike is a BEAST. You're looking at 150cc over stock, almost 50% more horsepower than stock, all in a package that weighs considerably less than the CB650 that the engine originally came in.

 The tank is very nice and spotless inside. It's painted silver to match some of the Japanese market CB750's and has a Super Sport stripe. The side covers and seat are painted to match. The "500Four" emblems are above average and very nice. The side covers were trimmed slightly at the front to clear the air filters and still fit snugly in the stock frame grommets. Some of the pictures show the side covers before they were trimmed.

 

 It has 400F handlebars with internal wiring. Rebuilt LH and RH controls. The stock gauges were swapped out for a DanMoto 180 digital cockpit gauge. It features tach, speedo, trip-meter and odometer, as well as turn signal, neutral, oil and high beam indicators. Vintage style grips and Halcyon bar end mirrors round out the dash/bar area.

 

 Speaking of 400F, the foot pegs are genuine 400F parts, with the heim joint on the shifter flipped for a straighter shot to the shift splines. The brake pedal is also 400F. This gives you factory "rear sets" using genuine Honda parts. Actually, they're more like "mid-sets" and are sporty and comfortable at the same time, especially with the 400F bars.

 

 The suspension has fresh bearings in the neck, bushings in the swing arm, new fork oil, new gators, new wheel bearings, etc. The wheels are Lester mag wheels with the rare 18" rear. They've were completely polished and then paint detailed before wrapping them with Shinko 712 tires.

 The master cylinder is from David Silver Spares. It's connected to braided stainless hoses and a caliper with EBC pads. The rear backing plate is polished and has EBC shoes. Very good brakes from this combination.

 The engine was recently given a full tune-up, including valve adjustment, cam chain adjustment, timing adjustment and vacuum carb synch. It runs VERY strong with no oil leaks or drips. The carbs were completely gone through, including new rubber O-rings and new accelerator pump. K&N filters work great with none of the drawbacks or flat spots associated with pods. Recent oil/filter change. The tooth count on the sprocket was chosen carefully to match the CB650 transmission gears with the taller (18" vs. the CB650's 16") rear tire and a new chain was installed. The exhaust was an NOS Jardine and has their Kal-Gard coating, which has proven very durable with no chipping or peeling.

 

The bike had less than 16,000 miles on it when I pulled it out of the barn. It has been through a few iterations and a couple of different engines while in my possession. I do not know how many miles were on the CB650 engine. The DanMoto shows 715 miles on it sine the latest "re-birth", and that will continue to rise until the bike is sold.

 Everything electrical works. The ignition is a custom Pamco unit. The charging system works as it should. All lights, switches, gauges, signals, etc. function as intended.

 

 It pains me to sell this bike, but my collection has grown and I need to trim it down and focus on current projects. If the bike doesn't meet reserve, I will re-list next Spring, but not before I remove the Lester wheels and Shinkos and swap them out for some good wire wheels, also with good tires.

 I've tried to be as thorough and honest as possible in my description. This is a vintage bike. It currently needs nothing but a rider but, as with any vintage bike, you may experience things that pop up from time to time that will require attention. It is sold AS IS, WHERE IS. Pick-up preferred, but I will assist the best I can with any shipping arrangements that the seller makes.

 I will attempt to attach a couple of "walk around" videos. One of them shows what appears to be a leak. IT IS ONLY SOOT AND CONDENSATION from the exhaust collector, NOT OIL.

Lorenzo, Spies Call Test a Success Despite Crashes

Yamaha riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies each crashed but both riders deemed the third and final day of MotoGP testing in Malaysia a success. Lorenzo and Spies both crashed during the morning of the test but were unhurt. Despite the minor setback, both riders managed to get a lot done at the Sepang International Circuit.
