Mackenzie and Hislop complete with hair

This video of the Knockhill end of season Jock Taylor meeting in 1988 makes me smile. Even although I had the dream ticket of riding for HRC in the 500cc World Championship I never stopped wanting to come back to the homeland and race my old mates.

Brian Morrison started racing on the same day as myself and went on to have a successful carreer riding for Honda in the UK then later in the World Endurance Championship. The other youngster heavily featured is the unique Steve Hislop who ten years later pushed me to the limit for BSB honours. My mechanic for the weekend was Nick Goodison and a man that could build the sweetest RC30s. Nick is a legend and is still in the BSB paddock working for Honda. Knockhill was pretty bumpy at the time so you'll notice I had super soft suspension on my bike.

I was having the time of my life here as I had just finished 4th in the Brazilian 500 GP, flew into Donington to win the F1 World Championship race (with Nick), did the business at Knockhill then went straight to Fuji in Japan. I got sacked by Honda soon after but that's another story.
