The 2013 Yamaha YZ85 has been fitted with an 85cc liquid-cooled, crankcase reed-valve-inducted, two-stroke engine that inhales through a 28mm Keihin flat-slide carburetor, providing flawless throttle response across the powerband. The engine is combined with the Digital CDI ignition system which releases more exact spark and monitors engine speed to make sure optimal timing for faster, stronger response during hard acceleration. Yamaha confirmed it plans to introduce a new Leaning Multi-Wheeler (LMW) vehicle for 2014. An accompanying image of a test unit in camouflage reveals two closely-aligned front wheels beneath a broad fairing. The new model will be a three-wheeler similar to Piaggio‘s MP3 scooter instead of the four wheels like the Tesseract concept (pictured further below) first introduced at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show.

MSF Begins Year-long Real World Motorcycle Safety Study

45,367 Motorcycle Thefts Reported in US in 2013

Americans reported 45,367 stolen motorcycles in 2013, down 1.5% from 2012, reports the National Insurance Crime Bureau‘s latest Motorcycle Theft and Recovery Report. According to the NICB motorcycle thefts have been on the decline every year since 2007 when 65,678 motorcycles were reported stolen, though the overall trend appears to be leveling off. Japanese motorcycles continue to be the most popular target for thieves.
