Triumph Trophy tech info
Triumph Trophy description
Offered is a 1965 Triumph 650 TR6SC mildly customized motorcycle in fine, roadworthy condition. Frame and motor numbers are matching. A bit of history on this. A Triumph with a TR6SC model designation was originally a purpose-built desert racer, a "Special". Production numbers were quite low. Most were sent to southern California and the West Coast, the home of huge desert races. The last picture is representative of it's original configuration. With this info, and the knowledge that this was originally a California bike, the life story of this bike has been filled with a long journey of change. I got it in the late 90's as a basket case chopper. Extended forks, awful apehangers, but unmolested frame. I brought back this unit construction twin with a desirable 72 GT750 front end with the dual / dual leading shoe drum brakes up front and retained the 16 inch wheel laced onto the stock hub in the rear. Spokes are typical old bike. Notso good, notso bad, tight safe, and true. Front fender is the GT sectioned down and rear fender/tail lite bracket is from a Yamaha XS 650. Tank is from a 72 Triumph and seat is a large solo (cut down by 4 inches) Buxton racing seat. Later concentric carb, freshly re-machined with new stainless sleeved slide. The pipes are aftermarket larger tubes from the chopper basket and mufflers are also aftermarket with cones and mini mufflers from Circle F Exhaust. No adapters, seamless look and function. Lonestar Metalwerks provided custom fabbed aluminum motor plates, muffler brackets, tail lite backing, and retrofitted long Kawi 1000 kicker for easier starting. Headlight shell is from a Kawi 900 with a tripod headlamp, featuring LED indicators for turn signals, ignition, oil pressure, and hi beam. Custom built wiring harness going with original TR6 type configuration as best possible with good components using stock rectifier and Zener with (new) sealed battery and capacitor with Battery Tender harness. Boyer Brandson electronic ignition utilizing GS1000 dual post coil. Still 12 V Pos Ground. Turn signal harness added later and is independently piggybacked using aftermarket sport bike lamps and Yamaha combination push to cancell TS, dimmer, horn switch. Bars are Renthal XR 750 bend pulled back a bit with Suzy GT 750 perches and levers/ front brakelite switch with aftermarket LED voltmeter. Triumph steering damper knob is non-functional. Koni rear shocks and springs with a GT750 chainguard with stock rear brake lite switch. Avon SM tires in good shape All cables were replaced with new dual fronts (Suzuki NOS) and a Gunner-Gasser quick throttle.. Fork seals were also replaced (5W Belray fork oil works best). Mirrors are custom made from sport bike blind spots. Engine was rebuilt years ago with all machine work done by British USA. 20 over pistons and turned crank, balanced with rods polished to mirror. New cam followers. All new crank bearings and seals as well as all new trans bearings. Castrol 20/50 has always been used (had to!) and Royal Purple 85/90 gear lube for the transmission and primary. Cylinder head was redone by Dan at Westside Performance with new guides and a mild port/pocket job. Barnett clutch with few miles. Everything works.
Bike starts easily and much work has been done to perfect it. Runs out great and spins up super. Loud, but not too loud. Handles better and has more brakes than any old Trumph, thanks to the Suzy front end and dual drums. No oil leaks with exception of a few drops from primary after a long go. Everyone knows Triumphs = oil leaks. LOTS has been done to seal this thing up. Paint is a 9 still and is a Volvo dark green. Just paint and clear, no metallic. A scar on the seat trim and a dent in the right tank badge are the only damage leftover from a scrape with a taxi. (another story) Not many miles on all this, really. Mostly neighborhood blasting around on Sunday. Full Triumph workshop manuals and other small spares come with. She starts and runs perfectly. Ready to go!
Nice bike and old friend. I just don't ride it much here in the city and have other projects. I have a clear Texas Title in my name. Check the pics and ask questions if you like. Thanks for looking!
