Triumph Thunderbird description

1966 TRIUMPH 6T THUNDERBIRD MOTORCYCLE.  All paint on motorcycle is original as it came from the factory. Motorcycle has never been repainted. All chrome on motorcycle is original. Wiring harness is original as it came from factory. I have owned and ridden this motorcycle for 27 years and purchased it from the original owner. Matching numbers on engine and frame. Includes original Stadium bar end mirror.

The engine is 650 cc and has been rebuilt and includes:

New main bearings, New rod bearings, New piston rings, New valve guides, All new gaskets in engine, New clutch plates, New pressure plate and new clutch springs, new primary chain and fresh gasket in primary chaincase. New clutch cable. New battery. Motorcycle always starts on the first kick.

All fluids have just been changed: fresh engine oil, fresh oil in primary case, fresh oil in gearbox.... Amal 376 carburetor has just been cleaned. Float needle is new and gas filter is new.

Original chrome Dunlop Wheel rims: Excellent chrome on rims and spoke nipples.

The paint is original an has excellent patina. The gas tank has one dent in the right side on the top. As you can see the front fender is not original to the bike, it is the fender that was on the bike when I purchased the bike. There is a very slow oil leak in the top end.

I have ridden this bike a lot and I have never had any trouble with the electrical system. All lights work, original horn works fine, all electrical switches in headlight nacelle are original. All electrical components are original Lucas. Charging system works as it should and is completely dependable. The engine runs perfectly and idles just right. The gearbox shifts just right. The motorcycle is a pleasure to ride.

THIS IS NOT A SHOW BIKE, IT IS IN ORIGINAL EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE MILEAGE I WOULD ESTIMATE TO BE AROUND 20,000

IT IS VERY HARD TO FIND ALL ORIGINAL TRIUMPH THUNDERBIRD MOTORCYCLES IN EXCELLENT UNRESTORED ORIGINAL CONDITION. The bike is very easy to work on and service, I have done all service and engine work myself and always enjoyed it.

Buyer to pick up motorcycle in Virginia.

Filling a void with an RD350LC

Mon, 29 Jul 2013

Last winter I managed to fill a void in my life when I stumbled on a very reasonably priced Yamaha RD350LC.  It was a tad scruffy, had the wrong exhausts but most importantly it was blue and white with all numbers matching.  I had the usual euphoria when the deal was done but I underestimated how much pleasure this particular purchase would continue to deliver another eight months down the line. The difference with this old bike is, instead of just taking it for the occasional ride I was talked into doing a full nut and bolt restoration.  Having never taking a bike apart completely before, initially it was quite daunting but I soon found the RD is easy to work on so it turned into a truly satisfying experience.  I’ve had some help from LC enthusiasts with the rebuild, however, the stripping, sourcing and organising was a total labour of love.  And call me sad but it has made me bond with this bike like no other which only adds to the feel good factor.  The bike cost £1800 and I’ve spent around £1000 but I reckon my mint Elsie is now worth a fair bit more.   I fancy rejuvenating a Fizzy  next time but there’s lots of other cheap 70’s and 80’s winter projects  out there so why not have a go yourself?

Triumph’s Wheel Bearing Recall Spreads to US for 2011-2012 Daytona 675, Street Triple and 2012 Thunderbird and Thunderbird Storm

Thu, 07 Feb 2013

Earlier this week, we wrote about a recall in Canada for unapproved wheel bearings for the 2011-2012 Triumph Daytona 675 sportbike and its naked sibling the Street Triple. As expected, a similar recall has now been announced for the U.S., adding the Thunderbird and Thunderbird Storm cruisers to the campaign. The recall also affects the 2011-2012 Triumph Street Triple R but the Daytona 675R is not included in the recall.
