Triumph Other description

I have a vintage classic Triumph TR6R 650cc motorcycle.  I got it about a year and a half ago and got it into a somewhat decent, safe, rideable condition.  When I got it there was a lot wrong and I've done quite a bit of work to get it to where it is good to ride.  I hate to sell it since I love riding it but my daughter has had some medical problems and I need to help her out.  Most everything that was replaced as new was around a year or so ago.  I've put almost 3500 miles on it since so there will be some wear for the new items.

Bike is currently registered as an Antique and has a clear transferable title in my name.  Frame and engine are matching numbers.

Details both good and bad.  As I said this is a rider and will make a good project for someone or just take it out and enjoy it.  Again what I list as new was new last year and will have some wear due to use.

Engine:  The engine is very strong and has great compression.  Starts within a few kicks when cold but a one kicker when it's warm.  Has a rebuilt Amal carb.  New coils and capacitors.  New zener diode.  Engine leaks, seeps, and burns oil.  Haven't done anything with the engine because it is so strong and I'm afraid of screwing it up.  I just buy oil at Walmart and keep it topped off.  New clutch cable.  New shifter.  New kickstarter though it needs a new kickstarter rubber since this is wearing out.  Bike comes with the overhaul manual in hard and soft copy.  Bike also comes with hard and soft copy parts manual.

Exhaust:  New header pipes and shorty Dunstall style mufflers.  Pipes have some bluing by the head due to use.  Nice sound that attracts attention.

Wiring:  I've gone through the wiring and fixed all the electrical circuits.  The last owner did some funny things so it's not the prettiest but it is reliable.  All lights work.  New turn signals and signal module.  Brake lights work with new brake light cover.  New ignition switch with 2 keys.  Battery was new last year.  It is a cheap Walmart battery that will lose voltage while sitting even with the fuse out (green tape in picture).  I will charge it before it is shipped but will probably need a good charge then a long ride when it gets to the destination.  It is harder to start with a weak battery.

Brakes:  Brakes are as good as can be for drums.  Rear brakes need to get some heat in them for max stopping power.  I replaced these last year with repops and they aren't as good as the original brakes. But they work.  Front will haul you right down.  New front brake cable today since the old one front brake light switch went belly up (cheap repop).

Forks:  Forks need rebuilt.  I will include new seal kit.  I believe but can't prove it that one of the fork tubes is ever so slightly bent.  Doesn't effect handling just makes the bars slightly off center.

Handlebars/Controls:  New handlebars since the bike came with ratty bent strange ape hangers.  I like a low bar so it has the Triumph TT bars.  New grips.  New air valve cable and control.  I had to buy a new speedometer since the old one was way off (read 80 when actually going 60).  I will include the old speedometer but the mileage on it is suspect since it read so high.  The mileage is just an estimate and it could be lower.  Needs new speedometer cup which I have.  I will either throw it in or replace it.

Tins:  All tins have a rattlecan paint job along with the frame (it's what I could afford).  They've all been sanded to bear metal and 2 coats of primer plus two or more coats of paint.  Does have some chips and scratches from use but the only in the top coat.  From 10  feet it does look pretty nice but up close is fair.  Again though this is a rider not a show bike.  Gas tank is off a 79 Triumph.  Original had heavy rust.  This one has a few spots but is in good shape.  I treat the gas every time I fill up.

Seat:  I'm only 5'8" so this is a tall bike for me.  I replaced the Triumph seat with a BSA seat and the shocks with 1" shorter Girlings.  This is so I can touch the ground.  (This was the main complaint about the oil in frame frame that came out in 71.)  Seat does have some rips and tears underneath but aren't visible.  New seat latch and trim.

Tires:  New front and rear tires with tubes.  Front rim has a few small rust spots.  Good spokes.  Rear rim has a good amount of surface rust.  I've treated it stop the rust and protect it.  I have another rim which will come with the bike.  Good spokes.  Chain was new last year.  I keep it lubed so it should still be good. 

Hardware:  This bike uses SAE hardware not Whitworth although most of it is fine threaded.  Whenever possible, I've replaced it with stainless steel hardware.

Extras:  I will throw in all the extras I have for this.  That includes all the oil, chain lube, etc.  As I said I have both hard and soft copies of the overhaul manual and the parts manual. 

Again this is a used vintage Triumph that is a rider not a restored show bike.  It can be used as is or it will make a great project.  It is AS IS and no warranty or guarantee is offered or implied.  It is also a bike that requires regular maintenance.  I've tried to describe it as best as I could but it is not a perfect bike.  Please don't bid if you are expecting that.  It has scratches, dents, minor rust, dirt, etc. typical for a rider that is over 40 years old.

Bike is located in south Mississippi.  Will be happy to show it to prospective buyers.  No test rides will be allowed unless you have the cash in hand to purchase.  Shipping arrangements and payments will be the responsibility of the purchaser.  I will be happy to hold it for a reasonable amount of time and help the shipper load the bike

Payment is by cashiers check, certified check, money order.  Non-refundable payment of $250 by PayPal is required within 24 hours otherwise I will cancel the sale and relist.  Bike will not be released until payment clears my bank.

The bike is for sale locally and I have the right to end the auction early if it sells.

AMA Hall of Fame member Craig Vetter will be the featured guest at its annual AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Breakfast at Daytona, on Friday, March 14, at 7:00 a.m., at the Daytona 500 Club on the infield at Daytona International Speedway.  “Craig Vetter’s impact is far-reaching, starting with the design of the iconic Windjammer fairings of the 1970s, continuing with motorcycle designs like the Triumph X-75 Hurricane and the limited-edition ‘Mystery Ship,’ and enduring more recently with a resurrected series of motorcycle fuel economy runs that push the boundaries of everyday streamlining,” said Jeff Heininger, chairman of the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, which oversees the Hall of Fame. “We’re proud to host motorcycling’s design professor emeritus for this year’s Breakfast at Daytona.” Taking place during 2014 Daytona Bike Week, the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Breakfast at Daytona fundraiser will feature a live interview with Vetter on stage, an audience Q&A period and an autograph session with Vetter and other Hall of Famers in attendance. Laguna Seca Added to 2014 AMA Superbike Schedule

AMA Superbike will be racing at Laguna Seca this year after all, with AMA Pro Racing announced the addition of the Monterey, Calif., circuit to its 2014 schedule, joining the World Superbike Championship on July 11-13. Laguna Seca was not included in AMA Pro Racing’s calendar, but its addition now increases the number of rounds in the series to six. That’s still down from the nine rounds held in 2013, but the absence of Laguna Seca and its famed Corkscrew would have been an especially tough loss.

FIM Updates Superbike Racing Homologation Lists for 2013

The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) has released an updated list of motorcycles homologated for the 2013 Superbike, Supersport, and Superstock racing season. Notable additions include the new BMW S1000RR HP4, the MV Agusta F3 and the Superbike-spec Ducati 1199 Panigale R. To qualify a production-based racebike for FIM homologations, manufacturers have to meet certain production thresholds.
