1971 Norton Commando (1971)
I completed a frame off restoration on this bike in 2009. Since then it has run beautifully: starts with 1-2 kicks, idles smoothly, shifts easily, handles well and is fast for 45 years old. Total mileage is unknown but I have ridden it less than 1000 miles per year since completing restoration. Ok i bought this from the second owner. He had re wired the bike and put in an electronic ignition with new coils..( It had sat for a while in a climate controlled garage..) When I got it I took it to Baxter Cycle and had them put 2 new Amal carbs on it. They also went over it and tidied up anything that needed doing...Since then, I have put about 30 miles on it...I now have a 75 850 and can't keep both...There is a small dent in the right muffler from the kickstart rubbing on it and the previous owner put some tap on a small crack on the rear fender...Otherwise ,it starts on one kick..Snarls like a Norton should and the electrics work...Looks to be original headlight and tires....I am by no means an expert and since I did not buy it new I can't verify it is all original but it sure does look like it to me...I have a copy of the previous owners title that states the mileage is accurate and everything else looks original and great..If you have less than 10 feedbacks contact me before bidding or I will cancel your bid...Thanks!!2016-07-01 05:04:31Bennington, Nebraska, United States411000 -

This is a beautiful Norton bike! I purchased it from the original owner. The bike sat in his shop for 8 years. I cleaned the carbs, points, adj. valves and it fired on third kick.] The bike was blue when I got it, (not my favorite color) so I had it professionally painted with decal's clear coated...real nice! The bike is real solid, all numbers match. I believe it is stock, the original owner said the top end has only 1,000 miles since overhaul and I believe him. My uncle bought this bike brand new from the california norton dealer in 1974 it has always been garaged and maintained, he had over 40 motorcycles and is in failing health due to age, he asked me to sell a few bikes for him, i dont know everything about this bike but if you have a question i can find out, other than that this bike usually starts on 1 kick and is in awesome condition, the front brake doesnt work and it probly should have a carb rebuild as its been sitting most its life, but it runs great and is surprisingly fast. Thu, 20 Mar 2014Norton Motorcycles has signed two-time TT winner Cameron Donald to a three-year contract to race in the Isle of Man TT. Donald will ride the Norton SG3 sportbike in the Dainese Superbike and PokerStars Senior TT classes, starting both races seeded 19th. That matches the number of the late Steve Hislop, the last Norton rider to win on the Isle of Man with a victory in the 1992 Senior TT race.
