Buell Cyclone description

Up for auction is a 2002 Buell M2 Cyclone with just shy of 12,000 miles.  The bike is part of a private collection and is occasionally ridden so the mileage may go up a little.

I have owned this Buell since 2008 and am a huge fan of these bikes.  This particular bike is painted in the rare and striking color combination of Volcano Gray and Molten Orange that was only available in 2002.  Besides the color, this is the last year and the pinnacle of M2 development.  Buell had many small improvements by then and this bike incorporates them all.  It is also outfitted with the factory option polished PM (Performance Machine) aluminum wheels, Sharktooth billet pulley, Race ECM, carbon fiber Buell Race air cleaner, Buell Pro Series Supertrapp muffler, Buell Pegasus engine, axle, and frame covers.  Maybe best of all is the matching Buell Pegasus comfort seat with matching orange piping.  Ask any Buell owner and they'll tell you this is the holy grail of seats, super comfortable and good looking!  The engine is a stock Buell Thunderstorm heads and M2 cams and 10:1 compression.  It produces 90-ish hp and 90-ish ft-lb of torque.

While this bike has been in my collection, it has received basic maintenance and is ridden regularly (but not for many miles).  When not being ridden, it is stored in a climate controlled garage.  The bike has fresh NGK spark plugs, a newish and strong HD battery.  All it needs is a rider!  I took it out this morning to get pictures for this auction...what a great riding bike!  The front rocker box gasket is weeping a little oil, a common thing at about this mileage.  Easy to fix and any HD dealer will have the updated gasket design in stock (same part as Sportsters).  It's not bad enough for me to repair yet, certainly rideable as-is.  Very torquey, quick, nimble handling.  Great for a sporting ride or touring but while keeping comfortable ergonomics.  Has that classic American 45° V-Twin sound, but with much more power, better handling, and better brakes than the typical HD.  Just a fun riding bike, with similar ergonomics and feel to bikes like Ducati Monsters or Triumph Speed Triples of the same era.

Paint is in great condition, nice and shiny.  None of the paint or decal issues some tube frame Buells suffered from.  There are a few small knee scuffs from riding, but nothing major.  See photos for details and ask questions if you'd like more information.

This is a great bike and a good one if you are looking for a tube frame Buell.  These bikes are rising in popularity with collectors, I have even started seeing early-mid era tube frame bikes on display prominent museums.

I encourage shipping for those not located near Iowa.  For those wanting to pick up, I am located just off I-35 for easy access.  I'll happily work with buyer arranged shippers, including typical prep work (disconnect battery, drain fuel, fold in mirrors, etc).  I will also help make sure the bike gets on the truck and strapped down safely.  From there on, it's in the shipper's and buyer's hands.  I may be open to delivery for those within a 300 mile radius.  Contact me if interested and we can discuss it.

$500 deposit due via PayPal within 24 hours of auction close.  Remaining balance due within 7 days by certified cashiers check or cash in person during pick up.

Geoff May To Ride EBR 1190RX In 2014 World Superbike Championship

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

During the AIMExpo in Orlando, Florida last week, Erik Buell Racing (EBR) took the covers off its latest sportbike, the 1190RX. The company also announced it would be taking the 1190RX directly to World Superbike competition in 2014, with Geoff May the team’s number one rider. Joining the world championship was a dream both May and Buell talked about regularly, dating back to when May first joined the team in 2010 riding the 1125R, so clearly both parties are excited about the season ahead.

2015 Hero HX250R – The Indian Sportbike Developed by Erik Buell

Wed, 29 Jan 2014

Indian manufacturer Hero MotoCorp revealed a new 249cc sportbike developed with the help of Erik Buell Racing. Hero is calling the HX250R for now, though the name may change before it enters production in the second half of the year. Whatever the name, the HX250R will be Hero’s flagship model and the company’s weapon against former business partner Honda and its CBR250R.

EBR First American Sportbike To Score Points In WSBK, Makes History

Fri, 18 Jul 2014

The EBR 1190RX had its best finish to date in the FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK) series during the only US round at Laguna Seca in Salinas, Calif., this past weekend. In an exciting twist, the wild card entry of Larry Pegram running the #72 Foremost Insurance/EBR/AMSOIL/Hero entry garnered a 14th place finish in the second race, earning the first-ever WSBK points for an American motorcycle manufacturer.  [In actuality, Pegram's EBR crossed the line in 16th place. However, the two Bimota BB3 entries who finished eighth and ninth with riders Ayrton Badovini and Christian Iddon, respectively, have had their finishes nullified all season because Bimota has not met the FIM's homologation requirements.
