Bimota SB8R Special description

Greetings, it is with a heavy heart that I must list my Bimota SB8R Special for sale. I never thought I would part with this bike as personally I think it is one of the most unique (other then a Tesi) and beautiful motorcycles ever made. I bought this bike from a collector and have had it garaged ever since. When I bought it, the Bimota had123 miles on it. Three months ago, I had all the brake fluid changed to fresh fluid including the clutch, a new battery installed along with a battery tender connection (trust me you do not want to change the battery on this bike), oil and filter and brand new Dunlop Q2's. The SB8R S is always stored in a heated garage along with a dehumidifier.

Everything on this motorcycle is stock except for the addition of the $500 optional fuel trimmer. I have not hooked the fuel trimmer up but it is on the bike. One of the issues with this bike is its ability to run properly down low and that is where the trimmer comes into play. However, I have found this bike to run flawlessly with no glitches down low. I have been following the manual for the proper break in and have not deviated from that. At 1000 miles you are free to open it up and ride like the wind. I have all of the manuals, along with the original sales brochure and three copies of Superbike magazine where they tested the SB8R when it originally came out of Italy.

Just some interesting facts on this motorcycle. The factory was not real accurate in keeping track of the number of SB8R Specials made but it is believed there were only 150 ever made. The aim when building this bike was to make a competitive World Superbike for the 2000 season. The motor was sourced from the Suzuki TL1000R. Bimota fitted their own electronic fuel injection system that uses 59mm throttle bodies in place of Suzukis 52 mm bodies. The stock exhaust is actually a redesigned Arrow stainless exhaust system. The frame is a joint venture utilizing aluminum and carbon fiber. The entire rear section is also carbon fiber and allows the bike to have no subframe. The seat section actually holds the exhaust. The front forks are Paioli 46mm upside forks joined by Brembo front brakes. The rear shock and the steering damper are Ohlins items.

This motorcycle is a work of art and it will draw attention no matter where you go. I have had HD riders complimenting the bike at a red light and Ducati salespeople coming out of the dealership to take pictures of it. It is a beautiful machine and it breaks my heart to leave it go but personal issues force the sale.

I have the title in hand. I will not ship the bike but I am willing to assist the shipper if the bike is picked up for transport.

There is no warranty on this bike and it is being sold as is. If you are near I would suggest you view the bike in person and if that isn't possible, I am more then happy to discuss it on the phone and send more picture of anything you would like to see.

I will let the pictures speak for this beautiful bike.

Thank you for looking.

Bimota Mantra - Remember this?

Wed, 26 May 2010

REMEMBER THIS? If you don't, or can't quite put your finger in the futuristic-looking V-twin, it's a 1995 Bimota Mantra DB3 - and it's up for grabs on eBay.Complete with wooden, yes wooden, dashboard and a 900cc Ducati air cooled motor, the Mantra was Bimota's £13,500 take on Ducati's highly successful Monster 900. This one's covered jusr 1,10 miles new.

Zero-mile Bimota V-Due on eBay

Wed, 04 Aug 2010

A RARE opportunity to snap up a zero-mile Bimota V-Due two-stroke race replica has come up for grabs on eBay. Launched in 1997, the V-Due was fitted with a 500cc, liquid-cooled, two-stroke, fuel-injected v-twin engine. It was the first time Bimota built an engine in-house, instead of sourcing engines from existing bike manufacturers.

1998 Bimota 500 Vdue

Fri, 04 Jan 2013

How could you not love Bimota's 500 Vdue. Launched in 1998 at a cost of £14,500 it didn't so much come with a list of optional extras, more a lottery list of factory-spec problems, longer than the accessories list on a 1200GS. To me, it sums up Bimota perfectly: ambitious, exotic, problematic and almost impossible to justify and because of this: addictive and alluring.
