BMW R-Series description

Vintage BMW Motorcycle 1979 "Motorsports" R65 with Full Body Pichler Fairing.

This a well-loved motorcycle, a member of our family for over 11 years. The odometer shows 34,662 miles. Color is a specially chosen "BMW Saturn Blue 176", with engine, transmission, bars, wheels, exhaust, crash bars in black. Smoke windshield, leather Denfeld "Police Pursuit" bags that fit the installed Krauser rack system. After we purchased it, we treated it to this professional cosmetic, paint and mechanical refurbishment. Seat was  rebuilt and recovered in black Sergeants "carbonfiber" knitted material. The seldom seen German "Typ ESX" Pichler fairing is specific to this model, has all the correct frame mounts, trim and fittings, as well as the original factory stickers inside. Original Pichler sales literature and specifications will be included.

Fired enamel Motorsports emblems on tank and tail, BMW tool kit, BMW shop rag, tire pump, first aid kit, new owner's manual. Recent New Hampshire registration. A certified NH “antique motorcycle” title can be provided if required, along with NH State Police and Motor Vehicles Certification of valid numbers which is proof of non-theft, non-salvage history. Well loved, always garaged, but son's college costs force sale. Never left outside or ridden in the rain since we've owned it.

Many recent (within the last 500 miles) professional upgrades, replacements or repairs consisting of, but not limited to:

  • Adjustment of Timing Chain and Points
  • Charging system tested at 14.1 Volts DC at 3,500 RPM
  • Replacement starter and new solenoid
  • New ring gear, and flywheel tested and balanced
  • New rear main seal and oil pump cover gasket
  • Lubed transmission input shaft splines
  • Aligned swing arm
  • New master cylinder, pads and bled brakes
  • Flushed gas tank and rebuilt fuel tap
  • New fuel lines and gas cap seal
  • Rebuilt carbs with all correct jetting
  • Present sealed, maintenance free lead/acid 12V-18aH battery is being recharged. If it fails to return to full charge, a new battery will be provided (or cost of battery deducted from your final bid).
  • New ignition wires, plugs and caps
  • New front coil
  • New grips
  • Replaced handlebars with K-series black bars
  • Fresh correct fluids front to back. NO synthetic oils were used.

Recent tune-up by local Certified Master BMW Motorrad Technician. Bike has good compression per the shop manual, and does not smoke on startup or any other time. Shifts smoothly, pulls strong in any gear and is a delight to ride. Tires still very good with no uneven wear or damage.

The low reserve is realistic and quite reasonable.

I can assist with shipping arrangements but shipping/crating is at buyer’s expense.

S1000RR vs. Goodwood

Sat, 20 Mar 2010

And before you say it, no it's not "Start and finish a journey on two wheels without falling off." I rode up Goodwood's hill. And I did it on BMW's mighty S1000RR. Ok, so it wasn't infront of thousands of on-lookers and it wasn't at any great speed.

2015 BMW K1600GT and K1600GTL Get Traction Control as Standard Equipment

Fri, 04 Jul 2014

BMW is updating its big six-cylinder touring bikes with traction control as standard equipment and a number of new optional add-ons including keyless remote ignition. Previously available as part of BMW’s factory-installed Safety Package option, the Dynamic Traction Control system will now be standard on all 2015 K1600GT and K1600GTL models. The system continuously monitors rear wheel traction during acceleration, stepping in when it senses excessive wheel spin.

2011-2013 BMW F800GS and F700GS Recalled in Canada

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

Transport Canada announced a recall for the 2011-2013 BMW F800GS and the 2013 F700GS because of a problem with the kickstand ignition cut-off switch. The switch is designed to turn off the engine when the stand is down and the motorcycle is shifted into gear; this prevents the motorcycle from being ridden with the kickstand deployed. On certain BMW F800GS and F700GS models however, the cut-off switch can loosen and become damaged.
