BMW R-Series description

Up for auction is a 1983 model R65 BMW motorcycle. It has spent lots of its time in a garage or storage. It has not been regularly ridden for the last two years, but the engine, gearbox, drive shaft, and final drive oils; the front brake fluid; and the front brake pads were all changed a few weeks ago. It has lockable bags, a small windshield, frame-mounted tire pump, and an accessory power plug (in case you want to wear heated clothing or power a GPS device)). The lead-acid battery was replaced in 2013 with a Shorai LFX18L1-BS12 lithium-type battery. I have all the service records since it came to me in January of 2010, and at least some of its service records from before that. It had 15,924 miles when I bought it, and all the additional miles are mine. It starts and runs well (I rode it from the shop in Louisville, KY back home in Lexington, KY after its latest service--about 70 miles), and is fun to ride, but is being sold as-is, and with no warranty of any kind. I'm selling it because I'm finding too little time to ride it any more since I moved here to Kentucky. I think the pictures speak for themselves about the cosmetic condition it's in, but note that one of the bags suffered heat deformation to the plastic when the mounting bracket broke (allowing the bag to touch the exhaust pipe). It doesn't appear to have made a hole through the plastic, but it deformed the bottom of the bag. The broken bracket was replaced, and the damaged bag still mounts to the new bracket and locks on OK. An inside view of the damage is shown in one of the pictures. The centerstand is also missing one of it's endplugs (visible in several of the pictures) The ignition, seat, and bag locks all use the same key, but the gas cap and fork lock use a different key (both keys are included). The tool kit is mostly (but not completely) there, and the bike comes with the following extra bits: owners' manual, Haynes Owners Workshop Manual for BMW 2-Valve Twins, BMW Repair Manual for R65 US Model, 5 different replacemant cables (the cables on the bike appear to be original from 1983 with aging rubber, so I was intending to replace them all), battery hold-down rubber strap (for the original battery-if you chose to go back to one of those), a headlight bulb and several other small bulbs, engine oil filter, and a new tube for front tire. New tires were put on in 2010, and are still good for a while. The buyer will be responsible for picking it up or making and paying for shipping arrangements (if you ship it, have the shipping company contact me, and I will meet them at the storage garage where it's being kept). The motorcycle needs to be picked up or shipped soon after payment is complete, because it's being kept in a storage facility. You could also pick it up and ride it home, if you'd like. When I lived in Omaha (up until early 2014) I was frequently commuting on it, and often took it for 2-3 hour rides in the countryside. The motorcycle has been mostly stored since 2014. The title will be sent to you by certified mail once payment is completed. If you have any questions, please ask them before you bid.

WSB racer Troy Corser and Formula One fast man Nick Heidfeld recently swapped their BMW race machinery for a lap of the Nürburgring circuit.   Corser, who got to drive Heidfeld’s 700 horsepower car, said: "It was just awesome! The car feels so balanced, the brakes are fantastic, the tyres have unbelievable grip and the steering is very direct but still has a lot of feeling.

2013 Long Beach International Motorcycle Show Report

Today the motorcycle press descended upon the Long Beach Convention Center to attend media day at the annual International Motorcycle Show. BMW Posts Record First-Half Figures

BMW Motorrad sold a record 60,580 motorcycles over the first six months of 2011, a new record for the German manufacturer. First half figures were 6.3% higher than the 57,015 units sold in the same period in 2010. BMW reports strong demand across all its models, with the Boxer engine R-series models leading the way.
