Land Speed Record Holder Bill Warner Dies Chasing 300 MPH Record

Land speed motorcycle racer Bill Warner succumbed to injuries suffered in a 285 mph crash at Loring Air Force Base in Maine. The 44-year-old from Wimauma, Fla., reportedly lost control of his modified turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa while attempting to reach a speed of 300 mph. Warner reportedly began veering to his right during one high-speed run on the base’s runway after clocking 285 mph.

The most spectacular, and perhaps dangerous, road race in the world is more than a month away — a painfully long wait for fans! — but the Isle of Man is ramping up activities for the 2012 Isle of Man TT with the official race kickoff event slated for tomorrow, Wednesday, April 18, at Villa Marina in the Isle of Man’s capital, Douglas. Chip Yates To Compete At Pikes Peak With Lightning

Now that the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is fully paved, the event is drawing a number of racers worldwide for the 91st running. The latest to announce his entry into the motorcycle field is six-time winner Chip Yates, aboard a Lightning superbike. Among the number of competitors, Yates will be competing against another Pikes Peak winner, Greg Tracy, aboard an Amarok P1A.
