Royal Enfield Announces Record Sales Growth

Wed, 12 Oct 2011

Royal Enfield announced a new sales record as unit sales over the first three quarters of 2011 have already surpassed worldwide sales totals for all of 2010.

Figures for the third quarter are still coming in, but Royal Enfield reports sales of 42,000 units in the first half, representing a year-on-year increase of 40%. The Indian manufacturer says it is on track to meet its goal of 70,000 units for 2011.

U.S. sales have been especially positive, with sales up 50%, thanks in part to its entry to the California market last October. While Royal Enfield is still a relatively small player in this market, such growth in a down economy is positive news.

“The growth of Royal Enfield world-wide is very exciting but growth in sales in America of 50 percent … that’s amazing,” says Ron Greene, vice president of sales at Royal Enfield USA. “Obviously we’re thrilled with the growth but it shouldn’t be surprising. The bikes speak for themselves. Once people try an Enfield they are hooked on a unique riding experience and that experience is reflected in the numbers.”

Earlier this year, Royal Enfield announced the construction of a new factory in India. The company has set a target of  90,000 units for 2012 and 100,000 in 2013.

More recently, Royal Enfield unveiled two limited edition models, the Bullet C5 Chrome and the Desert Storm.
