Other Sunbeam description

 1949 Sunbeam S8, Shaft Drive-Motorcycle. 2648 Original Miles.

I am the third owner. Original owner purchased new in the UK. Second owner imported to USA in the mid 1990’s.

Since I purchased the bike I have:

  • Had gas tank flushed, defumed, sandblasted and sealed by Gas Tank Renu
  • Full rebuilt of carburetor gaskets and float replaced
  • Replaced fuel line
  • Full rebuilt and calibration of Smiths Chronometric Speedometer by Palo Alto Speedometer in CA.
  • Added new Dunlap tires front and rear as well as fresh tubes
  • Cleaned front and rear brake shoes and drums
  • Installed new hand grips
  • Replaced fork oil with 30 weight
  • Inspect and adjust clutch assembly
  • Replaced all light bulbs with new brighter quartz halogen ones
  • Replaced bend spokes
Included in the sale are:
  • 2 Sunbeam repair manuals from Stewart Engineering
  • Receipts of all the work I have completed and parts purchased
  • 1949 MN motorcycle license plate
  • Leather pouch that mounts behind the seats
  • original hand grips
  • original headlight and taillight bulbs
  • spare spokes and nipples
  • Front Fender Sunbeam Plate

This bike starts, runs and rides perfectly. Since completing the above work I have put over 250 trouble free miles on it. It will easily cruise at 55-60mph. Very smooth too. I could not turn this bike down when I found it. It's low mileage and condition for its age were great. Both previous owners stored the bike in their homes and it shows. The price point to buy a bike from 1949, that looks this good, let alone drives like it does, was too good to turn down.

With that said this is no beginners bike. Kick start and right hand shifting (1 up, 3 down) makes, no turn signals and small drum brakes make this more challenging to ride then a modern day bike. If you are not comfortable with all the idiosyncrasies of riding and maintaining a 60 some year old British bike, then you should think hard about if this bike is for you. If you are familiar with all that comes with a bike like this, then you will recognize that I have completed the hard work and it is ready to enjoy. I can't think of any bike this old, that looks this good, is fully functional for this kind of money.

Everything on the bike works. Mirrors are not original, but were on there when I purchased it and they look and work fine. Few scratches on tank and front fender. As a whole the bike is very presentable and looks great. The second owner touched up the engine with silver paint. The bike leaks a little oil after use. Only item that needs to be addressed is the gas cap seal has worn out in a couple spots. If you fill the tank all the way up, the gap will leak. Readily available at Stewart Engineering online and a new seal could be put it too.

Google Sunbeam S8 for more. Parts are readily available from Stewart Engineering in the UK. I purchased this bike knowing about Stewart Engineering. Purchased most of my parts from them and they are committed to these bikes and awesome to work with.

I am not only a regular motorcycle rider (averaging 8k-10k miles a year commuting/traveling) and collector.
I also have been buying and selling exotic/collectable motorcycles from all over the world for nearly 15 years. My feedback speaks for itself. Bid with confidence knowing that I am the kind of person you want to buy a used bike from. I have sold dozens of bikes on ebay. See my feedback, it speaks for itself.

I am not enthusiastic about selling this bike. Change in job forces sale. Something has to go. Don't waste my time and I won't waste yours. Don't bid on this item if you don't have the funds to buy it. I need this money and don't have time for pretenders or auction spoilers. I will cancel any bid I am not comfortable with. If you have feedback under 10 and or negative feedback email me before you bid to let me know who you are and what your plans are. I reserve the right to end the auction early. If you have the funds to purchase this bike, ask questions if you have them. The pictures tell the story. All Sales Final.

I have a trusted shipping company that I can connect you with. $500-600 to your door.

If you win the auction and plan on using an online payment company, you will need to pay the fees, not me. The gift option is the best way to use the online payment systems.

Ask questions if you have them and i will do my best to get back to you.
