Up for sale is a custom 1980 XS850 Monoshock Cafe Racer.I spent over a year building this bike and I absolutely love it...I just don't ride it enough, and don't really have a need for an 850cc bike right now.
I did all of the work myself except for the powder coating and the welding/fab work. The welder is reputable and I can provide more information upon request. As you can see, a second vertical frame tube was added for extra support under the pressure of the mono shock.I have a really long list of replacement parts that I can provide upon request, but I'll cover the highlights here. I can also provide specific images and video upon request.- Custom hand made mono shock conversion. Professionally welded and engineered. shock is from a 2012 EX650. could be replaced with a Progressive shock (I have the part number) if you want to go a more advanced route.
- 2006 Ninja 636 front end. complete. brand new sealed all ballz bearings
- Fiberglass seat with sealed gel battery under bump
- Brown vinyl seat wrap, professionally done.
- Frame and tank powder coated. tank isn't perfect...probably 7/10?
- Rewired using maybe 60% of the stock harness.
- LED blinkers.
- iPhone charger and mount to use an iPhone as speedometer
- Tires have less than 500 miles on them
- Favorite mod - triumph triple flat slide CV carbs
- Rear sets (from an R6) with custom laser cut mounting plates
The Good: - Everything listed above
- Starts first try, every time (electric start)
- Good compression (last time I checked around 140 on each cyl)
- Checked valve clearance and all good
- Everything works
The Not-so-great: - Some surface scratches on the tank. See image for detail.
- Headlight hasn't faired to well in the sun. Has faded a bit. Can easily be repainted. See image.
- Rearset blocks kick starter. You could just remove the kick starter OR if in an emergency, remove the rear set to kick it over.
- I had the bike wired for 4 idiot lights (2 signal, neutral and oil pressure). The idiot lights were in the holes in the top triple tree. The lights broke so I removed them, but the wiring is still there and labeled if you want to re-install them.
Bike comes with the factory clymer manual. I will also include a PDF with images showing the starting process.
- Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. I would suggest U-Ship.
- Motorcycle is located in Hood River Oregon, about an hour East of Portland. If it is significantly cheaper to ship from Portland, I will consider delivering to Portland for a small fee.
