Norton Commando description

1970 NORTON 750 CHOPPER

This chopper was built in the early 80's to resemble a late 60's early 70's chopper. The bike does come with a title and vin plate. The title is a special construction and exempt from mileage. The bike has been sitting for many years as the previous owner had troubles starting it and took it apart to fix it and never did.  It is an aftermarket hardtail frame with a peanut tank and a king/queen seat. The motor is a 1970 Norton 750 Commando camshaft points. The bike no longer has points. The front and rear brake work. The tires hold air. The headlight hi/lo works as well does the running light and brake light. It has no turn-signals or horn. When I bought the bike the outer gear box was apart as the previous owner was in the process of fixing it. I noticed that it had a mighty max battery eliminator and the ever popular Lucas electronic ignition. Nothing in the outer gear box looked bad so I reassembled it. I removed the old electronics and re- wired the entire bike. I have installed a new Sparxx ignition, coils, wiring, battery, regulator and set the timing. New fuel, oil, plugs and cleaned the carbs (Mikuni) and she fired right up after a few kicks. No lie first try setting the timing on this one and it is almost perfect. The bike starts very easily every time. The Norton has been on a reliability run and the motor, clutch and trans all sound and work as they should. Keep in mind I have not upgraded any parts except for the electronics. Most of the bike is from the 80's while the motor is from the 70's I do believe it is original seals and gaskets etc. so it does leak a little after ride.

I'm on a Goodwood Revival comedown

Tue, 22 Sep 2009

I'm on a massive comedown after a great weekend at Goodwood Revival. The Revival relives the glory days of the 50s and 60s and that's not just marketing hype, almost everyone is dressed in perios clothing, the cars are all from 1948 to 1966 and the effort that goes into setting Goodwood up is incredible, even the burger vans are retro Citroens, the staff are dressed in period clothing and about the only thing not retro was the price of a bacon sarnie; £6.50, ouch! I only planned to go down on Friday, but I had such a good time I headed back on Sunday too.
