Norton 850 Commando description

This is a beautiful example of the MKIII Commando in the most sought after Gary Player paint scheme with only 6,571 original miles. This is a rolling restoration of an initially solid, good running bike. The following has been done:

-Front and back brake calipers rebuilt.

-Replaced front and rear brake pads.

-Replaced brake lines with braided stainless lines.

-Front master brake cylinder replaced with upgraded version from Old Britts and now stops like a modern bike.

-Mufflers replaced.

-New tires front and rear.

-New handlebar switch assemblies right and left.

-New brake and clutch levers.

-New clutch cable.

-New clutch discs and plates.

-Handlebars replaced with new European style bars.

-Starter motor replaced with upgraded 4 point armature and brushes.

-All starter cables replaced with upgraded harness.

-New Tri-Spark solid state ignition unit.

-Replaced carbs with PWK Flat Slide setup.

-Gas tank cleaned and resealed inside.

-New gas lines and fittings.

-New Corbin Gunslinger solo seat.

-New bar end mirror.

-New handle bar grips.

-All foot peg, starter lever, shift lever rubbers replaced.

-New spark plugs and wires.

-New upgraded coils.

-New drive chain.

-Primary gasket replaced.

-Replaced battery with upgraded gel cell.

-Replaced rear turn signal lights.

With all the upgrades to the ignition, carburetors, and starting system this bike very is easy to start. No kick starting needed, ever. The flat slide carbs are far more predictable and smoother than the original Amals. Setup with the Gunslinger seat and European bars the ride is considerably more comfortable for me than standard. With the lower seat height I can put my feet flat on the pavement at stops. I also own another Mark III with the standard seat and American bars and can make the comparison.

All lights, signals and horn work as they should. The bike has been regularly inspected, registered, insured and ridden for fun. No commuting or long trips as you can tell by the low mileage. Along with the more comfortable rider configuration the bike is just a head turner. I did not repaint the tank and side covers because in my opinion the original paint is much more desirable and collectable.

Moto Electra Equips Electric Norton Race Bike with iPad Console

Fri, 14 Sep 2012

Moto Electra has found a new, innovative way to combine old and new technologies in its electric race bike. The Virginia-based Moto Electra has been an active participant in electric motorcycle racing for the last few years, competing against much larger, better funded teams with a race bike using an electric motor and 1950s Norton Featherbed frame. That melding of old and new has produced surprising results, including podium finishes in the TTXGP and victory in a race featuring both electric and gas-powered motorcycles.

WITH BIKES LAPPING at 18 seconds off times posted by the AMA Superbikes, competitors in the inaugural TTXGP North America series still enjoyed a good old scrap at Infineon Raceway, California. An eclectic mix of bikes lined up for the start of the 2010 TTXGP series; a modified 1966 Norton and a 2010 Mavizen TTX02 Superbike were just two of the machines that took part in the race. US rider Shawn Higbee took victory in the event, riding for team Zero Agni.
