Honda RC51 description

2005 RC51 SP-2 (aka RVT1000R / VTR1000R)

ONLY 8,740k miles.  $5800.

Very clean bike with low miles.  Rare to find an SP-2 with less than 10k miles.  Clean title, in-hand.  Video here: http://youtu.be/Jg6oGZesx-w

Why selling?  Since owning it I have bought a track bike and started a family, so now I rarely ride on the road and I need to make space in the garage.

The bike: There’s nothing on it that is not useful for handling/speed (except for the tint in the windshield).  Bike never crashed, never seen rain.  Oil regularly replaced.  Suspension set up for a 180lb rider by Washington Cycle Works, NJ.

Mods:

·        Full Micron exhaust system with carbon slip-ons
·        Power Commander III with custom map (not downloaded, actually dynoed to the engine).  Makes I can give you a copy of the mapping.
·        Braided brake lines
·        Larger Spal fans on the radiators (direction can be reversed, but I have settled on sucking air in rather than blowing it out across the radiators)
·        Crash protection – frame sliders and swing-arm sliders
·        CRG levers
·        Renthal front & rear sprockets (rear has +2 teeth)
·        Renthal chain (530)
·        Heat-wrapped headers
·        Tinted windshield
·         Switch to turn on fans when rider wants

Consumables:

·        Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa tires (55 profile rear for better turning) – almost new with 90% life in them
·        Engine ice
·        Repsol fully synthetic oil changed in May and K&N filter
·        HH brake pads

Extras:

·        One full, as new fairing side (I never needed new fairings, I just happened to buy this from ebay)
·        A set of Dan Kyle Pair block-off plates
·        A Dan Kyle flapper valve block off cover
·        A 10.7 Kg/mm Eibach rear spring (stock is 9.8 Kg/mm)
·        Original windshield
·        Repsol fork oil
·        ·        Second key
·        Rear seat cowl (comes with seat)

One note: The RC51 is not a city bike – it doesn’t like the heat.  You can Google this.  Most owners try to reduce the heat made by the engine (as have I – see above).  As long as you’re not planning on sitting in traffic, you’ll be fine.

This is a clean bike with low miles.

Please come and look at the bike & talk to me about it.  No trades.

Can deliver locally to 07701.

MotoGP should return to Suzuka

Thu, 14 Jul 2011

Suzuka was always one of the great circuits; unfortunately the Japanese track was dropped following the tragic death of Daijiro Kato in 2003 as the course was deemed too tight and dangerous for the rapid four-strokes. Owned by Honda, Suzuka is a magical place combining arching S-bends from the start of the lap, high-speed in the middle and finished off with the technical and oft racing deciding final chicane, the location of many fantastic last lap battles. However the death of Kato, and Honda’s major hope of a Japanese champion, placed a dark cloud over the 5.807 kilometres of tarmac.

Classic corner: Phillip Island turn 12

Tue, 03 Jul 2012

Ask any racer what corners they would choose for their perfect track and the long swooping left that makes up the final corner of Phillip Island would appear on quite a few designs. Here the Honda World Superbike riders Jonathan Rea and Hiroshi Aoyama, along with technician Chris Pike and Pirelli's Giorgio Barbier detail the classic corner from the Australian track.

Honda Announces CBR400R, CB400F and 400X for Japan

Tue, 12 Mar 2013

Honda confirmed it will produce a 399cc version of its new 500-series motorcycles for the Japanese market. The Honda CBR400R, CB400F and 400X will be offered in Japan instead of their respective 500 versions, as they are a better fit to the country’s tiered licensing system than the CBR500R, CB500F and CB500X. The new 400 models should come as no surprise after Honda announced in February it would produce a smaller version of the 471cc engine used in the 500 series.
