Harley-Davidson Sportster description

You are looking at my current daily driver.

It began life as a 1988 harley sportster 883. I purchased it from a friend in non working condition.

After a little diagnostic work, it became apparent to me that it needed an engine rebuild.

In the time I was taking to decide if I was going to tackle such a project as an engine rebuild a recently complete never been run rebuilt 1996 top breather 1200 motor became for sale at the local harley shop.

I jumped on it. (Maybe a little to fast) as I didn't realize that it wouldn't be plug and play. I had to convert to o-ring chain drive, which in my opinion is better and more easily serviceable. Also, there where issues with the kickstand and other little things that I fixed. I also installed a complete custom wiring harness that my friend and I made.  I installed a push start button and high-low beam switch within the headlight.

After basically all of last winter, I got the bike together and riding. I did a 600 mile trip right out if the gate with not a single issue. The bike screams: way faster then an 883 I had previously. I then decided to customize it with some personal touches... (up until then I was just wanting to get it going.) I bought a king and queen seat for my lady to ride with me, a sissy bar, some pull back handlebars and also made a 2 into 1 header pipe with fish tail tip. I heat wrapped it and blacked out a few things. This bike isn't a real looker to those who prefer chrome and perfect paint jobs, as its sort of on the ratty side but I will tell you what it runs like a raped ape.  It really screams. I put a screaming eagle ignition in it and that made a huge difference in the performance.

Just last month I change all the fluids, brake pads, new battery, and 2 new tires.

This bike is a great starter bike or a perfect bike to make a chopper or bobber. My plan was to hardtail it this winter. But plans change and the economy is forcing my sale. I can guarantee the final sale price of this NO RESERVE auction won't be near half of what this bike has costed me. Please check all the pictures and bid accordingly. It will sell to the highest bidder. I also live 15 minutes from the RDU airport and will pick you up there if needed and you can begin your adventure and drive this baby home! Thanks for looking and happy bidding.

The only thing that will not be coming with the bike is the custom Air-cleaner emblem, as it was a gift from a friend. It can be unscrewed, leaving the air cleaner cover to function as well.

Twin-engine pulsejet motorcycle. As you do..

Mon, 21 Feb 2011

The guy behind this twin-engined pulsejet motorcycle, Robert 'Bob' Maddox, fascinates me. He's a cabinet maker by trade but is somewhat an expert in the field of pulsejet engineering and has built a whole host of machines powered by the ever so subtle jet engine. This latest bike is dubbed a Harley-Davidson Sportjet, although it has nothing to do with Milwaukee and I'm not sure why H-D made it onto the tank...
