Upcoming 2014 Triumph America Horizon Now to be Called the America LT

Mon, 26 Aug 2013

Back in March, we broke the story of a new variant on the Triumph America for 2014 that had received an executive order from the California Air Resources Board. The CARB document, dated March 14, identified the new model as the Triumph America Horizon.

Based on the name and Triumph’s current product offerings, we inferred the new model would be a new touring variant of the 865cc America cruiser. The name “America Horizon” later emerged in vehicle certification and testing documents released by the Environmental Protection Agency.

A new executive order dated Aug. 16 from CARB suggests Triumph had a change of heart and has decided to instead call the new model the “America LT“, a name that further supports the theory it would be a touring model.

The original executive order listed the America Horizon alongside the regular America, the Speedmaster, Bonneville, Bonneville T100, Scrambler and Thruxton. The new document, which supersedes the March 14 executive order, lists the same models but replaced the America Horizon name with America LT.

Beside the new name, the two executive orders are nearly identical. The document shows the America LT uses the same 865cc parallel-Twin engine as the America, Speedmaster and Triumph’s classic models. The emission levels are identical to those listed in the 2013 executive order, suggesting little to no change in the engine for 2014.

Triumph had previously offered an 865cc tourer in 2011 as the America Classic Touring, which added a windscreen, leather saddlebags, a passenger seat with backrest from the company’s accessories catalog. We expect the Triumph America LT to offer similar accessories as standard equipment.

The America LT appears to be the first of a new line of Triumph tourers. Earlier this summer, spy photos revealed two other Triumph touring cruisers undergoing testing. Those photos reveal a liquid-cooled parallel-Twin engine, likely the 1597cc engine used in the Thunderbird.

Expect to hear official news of at least one new Triumph tourer in the months to come leading up to the 2013 EICMA show in November.
