KTM Announces RC390 Cup Racing Series, Production Model to Follow

Sat, 13 Jul 2013

KTM pulled the wraps off a new racebike to be used in a new spec racing series in 2014. The RC390 Cup will be used in the 2014 ADAC Junior Cup Powered by KTM, with a production version going to market in 2014.

The RC390 Cup racebike was revealed during the MotoGP round at Germany’s Sachsenring circuit. The Cup racer is powered by a 373cc single-cylinder engine, likely derived from the KTM 390 Duke, with a claimed output of 38 hp. Other features include a tubular steel trellis frame, WP suspension and radial-mount brakes (see full specs below).

“In principle, the cup machines are 1:1 to the specification of a completely new KTM street bike match that comes into the world trade in 2014,” says Stefan Pierer, chief executive officer of KTM.

“We developed a pure GP racing machine for the Moto3 World Championship. In contrast, the RC 390 Cup is based on a series model project. Both of these two projects were given the highest priority because the development of lower displacement, high quality street bikes are among our core activities. The new KTM RC 390, which will be available for sale in 2014 will meet a big demand for affordable, quality sport bikes for the lower displacement class.”

The ADAC Junior Cup is a youth racing series that runs at Germany’s IDM domestic racing championship and the German Grand Prix. The Cup is currently open for race bikes of any make with an engine displacement of up to 125cc and 35hp. The Junior Cup series has been operating since 1993. The most prominent racer to compete in the ADAC Junior Cup is 2005 125cc World Champion Thomas Luthi.
