Harley-Davidson Donated $4.5 Million to Various Causes in 2012
Fri, 15 Feb 2013Harley-Davidson donated more than $4.5 million to support various charitable groups in 2012.
The donations, which include both grants and merchandise, went to several organizations, including those around Harley-Davidson‘s bases in Milwaukee, Wis., York, Pa., and Kansas City, Mo., but also to groups across the nation.
The Milwaukee chapter of Habitat for Humanity received a $200,000 grant for its Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, helping fund housing projects in the Washington Park community. Another $284,000 went to the United Way of Greater Milwaukee to fund outreach and support programs. More than $1 million in discontinued Harley-Davidson apparel and accessories were donated to Milwaukee-based Threads of Hope, which will distribute the donation to various agencies in southeastern Wisconsin.
Harley-Davidson continued its support of disabled American veterans with $250,000 set aside for Harley’s Heroes, which helps veterans receive their due military benefits.
A portion of the revenue from Harley-Davidson’s Pink Label Collection of apparel totaling $200,000 will go to various breast cancer associations.
Other organizations receiving help from Harley-Davidson include the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee and Kansas City, Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee, Crispus Attucks Center for Employment and Training in York, the Urban Ecology Center of Milwaukee, the YMCA, and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City for Hurricane Sandy relief.
“Our mission at The Harley-Davidson Foundation is to help meet the needs of the communities where we work,” says Tonit Calaway, Foundation president and Harley-Davidson’s vice president of human resources. “With the Washington Park neighborhood in our corporate office’s backyard, supporting the important and necessary work of Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity is truly neighbors helping neighbors.”
