Flooding in Thailand Not Expected to Affect Honda Motorcycle Production

Thu, 13 Oct 2011

Severe flooding in Thailand has disrupted Honda’s automobile production but the company’s motorcycle production is expected to proceed normally.

Hundreds have been died since July due to heavy flooding in Thailand and several provinces remain underwater as the Asian nation experiences its worst floods in 50 years. Heavy monsoon rains from multiple storm systems over the last few weeks have added to the problem, affecting millions in northern and central Thailand.

The recent storms in early October forced Honda to suspend production at its Thai automobile and power product plants. Auto production was halted Oct. 4-8 due to a disruption in parts supply but flooding in the facility itself forced Honda to keep the factory closed. Production of Honda’s power  products was also halted Oct. 6-8. Motorcycle production however is expected to continue as normal.

Honda’s Thai plant is the worldwide production center for models such as the Honda CBR250R and the Honda PCX scooter.

In a released statement, Honda expressed sympathy and condolences to the victims of the flood.
