EICMA 2011 Preview: 2012 KTM 690 Duke

Mon, 31 Oct 2011

KTM has released a video teasing its redesigned 690 Duke, which is set to make its debut at the 2011 EICMA show.

The 2012 690 Duke will be powered by what KTM claims is the world’s most powerful Single-cylinder engine in production, with output expected to be close to 70hp.

Updates include a side-mounted exhaust instead of the previous version’s underslung silencer, ABS, ride-by-wire throttle and weight savings from a new manufacturing process for the structural fairing and subframe.

The flat-faced headlight and graphics also gives the new 690 a similar design language as the smaller-displacement 125 and 350 Dukes.

Unfortunately, it does not appear that KTM will bring the 690 Duke to North America. KTM has dropped both the Duke and the Super Duke from its American lineup while the now-infamous leaked Powerpoint slide from KTM’s North America dealer meeting does not list the 690 Duke for 2012 to 2014.

The good news though is the leaked slide does list the 350 Duke and a new Super Duke R1290, but we’ll have to wait until 2013 to see those models on North American roads.
