Mon, 20 May 2013

Bonnier Corporation, owner of Cycle World, Popular Science and Field & Stream magazines, among others, has just inked a deal with Source Interlink Media, acquiring nine of SIM’s motorcycle titles.

Terms of the transaction, including purchase price, were not disclosed.

Under the deal, Bonnier acquires Motorcyclist, Sport Rider, Dirt Rider, Motorcycle Cruiser, Hot Bike, Baggers, Super Streetbike, Street Chopper and ATV Rider. However, the transaction benefits both parties, as Bonnier sold SIM Sound + Vision, TransWorld SNOWboarding, TransWorld Motocross, TransWorld SKATEboarding, TransWorld SURF, TransWorld RIDEbmx and TransWorld Business.

Statements from both companies touted the virtues of these acquisitions in further helping each move toward becoming segment leaders in their respective categories. With the move, Bonnier will now own the top two motorcycle magazines in the country in Cycle World and Motorcyclist. It is now also the largest publisher in the motorcycle market worldwide, according to the Bonnier press release.

It remains to be seen whether the two titles, along with any of the other titles acquired in the deal, will merge. For now, however, the titles will remain separate entities with no layoffs planned, according to a report from www.adage.com.
