2012 MV Agusta Brutale 1090R Announced – Formerly Canadian Exclusive Model Expands to Other Markets

Thu, 22 Sep 2011

MV Agusta is adding another new member to its Brutale line with a lower spec version of the 1090RR. The 2012 MV Agusta Brutale 1090R joins the 1090RR, 990R and the 920 in the Italian manufacturer’s lineup.

MV Agusta’s Canadian importer Motovan had been offering its own version of the Brutale 1090R since April as a Canadian exclusive model instead of the 920 version, but the new 1090R will be available in other markets. The only changes from the Canadian versions are higher seat and ground clearance (both now match the 1090RR’s 32.7-inch saddle height and 5.91 inches of clearance), and graphical updates.

Like the Canadian version, the Brutale 1090R uses two-piece four-piston Brembo calipers instead of the 1090RR’s monoblock front calipers and cast aluminum wheels instead of the RR’s forged rims.

The Brutale 1090R uses a Marzocchi 50mm upside-down fork with adjustable preload, damping and rebound and will have only 120mm of travel instead of the 1090RR’s 130mm. A Sachs shock with rebound damping and spring preload adjustment provides rear suspension.

The 1090R is powered by the same 1078cc four-cylinder engine as the 1090RR with a claimed power output of 142hp at 10,300 rpm and 82.6 ft-lb. at 8100 rpm. The ECU has been reprogrammed for the 1090R but the traction control system will also offer eight different settings.

The Brutale 1090R will also have a new one-piece seat for rider and passenger.

MV Agusta will offer the Brutale 1090R in three colors: white, red and black. European pricing is set at 13,990 euros (US$18,800) compared to the Brutale 1090RR’s 18,500 euro (US$24,950) price tag. No word yet on U.S. pricing or availability however, the Canadian pricing for the 2011 model is CA$15,995 (US$15,525).
