Vincent Rapide description

This is a rare piece of classic motorcycle and has won third place at the Shadow Lake Vincent Owners Club rally in Canada two years after it was purchased in the '80s. Finished in traditional black with gold pinstriping, the bike is powered by its original 998cc V-twin, which has been upgraded to 8.5:1 compression and features gas-flowed heads, larger AMAL carburetors, and dual-point ignition.

Other modifications include a 19?/18? wheel set, Black Shadow speedometer, Alton 12-volt generator, Koni front damper, and Dave Hills center stand. A refurbishment was completed in 2017 with the assistance of VOC archivist Peter Bell, and approximately 1k miles have since been added.

The fuel tank, fork, and rear frame member have been refinished in
their factory black. Gold pinstriping and decals were then reapplied. Polished alloy fenders are installed, along with a Feridax saddle. The Girdraulic fork utilizes an adjustable Koni damper. 19” front and 18” rear rims are laced to the factory hubs, allowing for more tire choices. Avon Road Rider tires are currently mounted, and red stripes have been added to the rim centers.

Traditional Vincent flat bars wear a single bar-end rearview
mirror, while a reproduction 5” Black Shadow 150-mph speedometer is centered above the headlight. 28k miles are shown on the odometer. The 998cc V-twin was rebuilt with an 8.5:1 compression ratio, as well a pair of gas-flowed heads, 1 1/8” AMAL carburetors, and a dual-point ignition. Power is routed through a Trevor Southwell clutch and a four-speed gearbox. Charging is managed by a 12-volt generator, and an oil change was performed approximately six months ago.

Video: 180bhp N2O injected Vincent

Tue, 21 Feb 2012

The Greek God Epithemeus - the name of this three-wheeled, 180bhp Vincent record breaker - was the brother of Prometheus. Epithemeus (meaning afterthought) was the creator of many dangerous, ill thought-out beasts. Unlike his dilligent brother, Epithemeus was a bit of a f**kwit who threw everything at his powerful new animal creations with little thought of the consequences. A perfect name, then.
