Norton Commando description

Reluctantly selling my '74 850 Commando Roadster. Good condition including original blue metal-flake paintwork and chrome. There are minor scratches and dings - normal wear and tear for a 42 year old bike. The inside of the tank was 'creamed' 5 years ago (professional job) there is no separation and it does not leak. I also installed new petcocks at the same time.

Engine is very strong with tons of compression and abundant power. It starts, rides, handles, and stops well.

Recent top-end rebuild (less than 500 miles ago) and misc. receipts from past 2-3 years for over $3,750 which are available for review. All engine performed by a qualified and very knowledgable professional with 40 years of experience working on British and foreign machines. His work is 1st class. New Reynolds chain replaced less than 500 miles ago. Original carbs were also sent back to England to be re-sleeved a few years ago too so the engine idles nicely.

This is a solid original machine and everything works as it should. Please look at the photos very carefully as they best describe the condition of this bike. It would make an ideal cosmetic restoration candidate or, as I did, a respectable ride as-is.

It comes with the original factory issued service and parts manual. I have some various spares that can go with the bike too - such as clutch puller.

Non-standard items include a K&N air filter and various stainless steel fasteners. I do not have the original metal air box but they are available from various sources. I also had the master cylinder / piston modification performed a few years ago to improve the front brake efficiency.

Norton Commando are appreciating in value and there are very few original (unrestored) examples left in the market - this bike always receives plenty of attention at various New England bike shows because it is unrestored. Again, original British rims, spokes, peashooter mufflers, front and rear mud guards etc...

Matching numbers - frame and engine as shown in the photos.

Terms and Conditions:
This bike is sold as-is. No warranty is expressed or implied. Your bid is an offer to buy and not an option to buy. Please ask questions before making an offer I will respond as soon as I can. The Commando comes with a clear MA title in my name.

I am unable to crate or ship the bike but will make every reasonable effort to meet and help a shipper of your choice. Local delivery, within 100 miles of metro-west Boston, is also a possibility but please confirm with me before placing a bid.

Thanks in advance for looking.

Bonneville from a parallel universe

Fri, 20 Sep 2013

This is the Triumph Speed Twin Concept, a bike commissioned by Triumph to show what the Bonneville might have evolved into, in a parallel universe. I love the concept. Designed by Roy Norton and Tom Kasher who were on a placement at a design studio, I get the impression the pair are into motorcycle and not just designers.

I'm on a Goodwood Revival comedown

Tue, 22 Sep 2009

I'm on a massive comedown after a great weekend at Goodwood Revival. The Revival relives the glory days of the 50s and 60s and that's not just marketing hype, almost everyone is dressed in perios clothing, the cars are all from 1948 to 1966 and the effort that goes into setting Goodwood up is incredible, even the burger vans are retro Citroens, the staff are dressed in period clothing and about the only thing not retro was the price of a bacon sarnie; £6.50, ouch! I only planned to go down on Friday, but I had such a good time I headed back on Sunday too.
