Honda CB description

Up for auction is a very rare, restored 1966 HONDA CB450 RED DRAGON!.   These bikes were never available for sale in the United States.  I did extensive research to find the history on these motorcycles. This one, as far as I know, is the only restored Red Dragon Honda 450 in the United States!  I purchased this bike about 8 years ago.  When I went to work on it, I noticed there was red paint underneath the black paint. I sanded down every spot on the bike down to the original red paint.  (I have many photographs and videos) I even found original red paint underneath the  bottom steering race when I removed the races and bearings.  I initially thought that the CB450 may have come in all 4 colors that Honda provided in the 1960s: Black, red, white, and blue...But that was not the case. I found that the US market had only black bombers, the European market had a mix of black and red, white was only for the police CB450 models, and blue was never produced by the HONDA factory. I have a factory Honda parts manual for police and black bomber CB450's and they only came in 3 colors: white, black, and scarlet red.  once I establish that honda actually made red ones I disassemble the entire motorcycle for restoration.  All parts removed from this bike were either repainted, re-chromed, polished replaced with OEM parts or refurbished.  This was a long restoration project. I never intended to have this bike for sale, it was for my personal collection.
The cases were split and completely cleaned. The top end was rebuilt: new cam rollers, new cam chain, cylinders honed, new rings installed, valves lapped, new valve stem seals, and new engine gaskets and seals. Aluminum engine cases and cam covers, were polished to a chrome like finish, and the body of the engine was painted with high-temp aluminum engine paint.  I did not powder coat the frame. I could not find a powder coat color that was close enough to the factory red. The Red colors that I found always had an orange tint in the sunlight. I found an actual can of factory Honda scarlet red paint that I was able to computer match and spray the bike with the absolute factory identical red paint!!!  I still have the factory sample paint jar which will come with the motorcycle.  This cost me A LOT more than it would cost to powder coat the bike!!.  The fenders, side covers and fork tubes are painted cloud silver.  The wire harness, rectifier, starter solenoid, and speedometer were completely refurbished and rebuilt by RJ cycles. My buddy Ronnie Jennings does amazing work!  The speedometer, tachometer, and odometer all work perfectly.  Look him up at rjcycle.com.  Both original DID rims were re-chromed and new spokes added. The front and rear aluminum hubs were polished and installed with brand-new brake shoes.  Both wheels have chromed axles and chromed hub linkage. New Duro tires were installed, they are the closest to a factory size and tread that I could find.  They look great.  The rear sprocket it is an OEM sprocket with a new DID chain.  The carburetors are original to the bike they were ultrasonically cleaned and rebuilt.  The air filters were in very good shape..I blew them out, cleaned the paper elements and reinstalled them.  The gas tank has re-chromed side panels, original rubber knee grips, beautiful reproduction 450 badges, re-chromed original gas cap with cork seal, brand-new petcock and lifetime "rust free" inner tank lining.  GTL of Los Angeles treated and sealed the tank. The gas tank is pristine! The original handlebar switches are polished. The horn, high and low beam, and electric start buttons all function perfectly. The bars are brand-new OEM Honda. I believe they are for a CB400F model.  I prefer the lowrise look so I used those.  The handlebar grips are originals, the driver and passenger foot pegs are reproduction rubber for 1965-1967 Honda CB 450's made by Clauss Studios and the gearshift and kick lever, rubbers are from Ohio Cycle.  The front forks have re-chromed ring collars and sleeve covers with brand-new fork seals inside.  The fork tubes are currently dry as to not blow the seals during shipping. The front end also has brand-new steering races and bearings. The triple clamp has been polished and the perches, clutch lever and brake lever are new.  The center stand assist grab bar, the gearshift lever many other bolts and nuts have been re-chromed. The original starter motor was rebuilt and functions perfectly.  Kick starter lever was re-chromed and works perfectly as well.  The original Honda Elephant horn is also installed. For some reason right now it makes a weak squawk but it did function before.  The front brake, throttle, and clutch cables are spot on reproductions made by Charlies Place of Los Angeles.  The tachometer cable is original.  Both cable guides in the front fender are vintage OEM gray color as are both spark plug insulator caps.  The seat was reupholstered by Southbay upholstery.  Hai does fantastic work and he does all of the Garage Company's seats!  We used the original strap buckles and rivets. They were re-chromed and installed. The locking knob is an aftermarket part, the rest of the pieces are original.  The taillight is original as well as the red tail light lens. The cover has been re-chromed and the aluminum lens housing polished. The Ignition switch is the original 4 stage switch with original key and 60's "Honda wing" key chain!  Functions perfectly.  The exhaust is original to the bike.  They are one solid piece... The headers do not slip into the mufflers like the 1965 K0 450's. They sound great and the baffles are still installed. The pipes were prepped for chroming but I did not re-chrome them. They look good the way they are now but they are not perfect. You can leave them the way they are but if you do you will need to polish them periodically since zinc is exposed in some areas and does oxidize over time.  This causes the right header to "blue" but it wipes off.   The header did not blue before the pipes were prepped .  The right side also has some small dings, scrapes and light surface rust on the bottom...zoom in and check out the pictures closely.... I think they look great..I'm being honest and don't want the buyer to have any surprises...remember, these are 50-year old original pipes!  Also included in the auction is the very rare 1965 factory Honda owners manual in excellent condition!  License plate is an original California black plate with the world-famous BUD EKINS Sherman Oaks dealer license plate frame!  Brand new gel battery.  The bike runs, revs and drives great!! Shifts smoothly through all 4 gears. The engine sounds fantastic!!... has no clatters, clanks or knocks of any kind!  Does not blow any smoke!  I have a CLEAR CALIFORNIA TITLE  in my name.  Please ask any questions you have as I may have left something out!  Here is your chance to own a very classic piece of Honda motorcycle history!  A great addition to any collection.

*****The bike was on display at the 2015 PROGRESSIVE INTERNATIONAL MOTORCYCLE SHOW in Long Beach California.  It was also on display at DEUS EX MACHINA's front window in Venice California for 5 months. This motorcycle was also featured in MOTORCYCLE CLASSICS MAGAZINE May/June 2016 issue and OLD BIKE MAGAZINE Aug/Sept 2016 issue. #60.  The Dragon was the final chapter in the movie documentary  "THE GREASY HANDS PREACHERS" featuring  Shinya Kimura, Roland Sands, Deus Ex Machina, Blitz, El Solitario and myself.  The "ELUSIVE RED DRAGON" is the final chapter of the movie where I begin the restoration process.  Here's a link to the documentary movie trailer. You may have to copy and paste it.

Ryan Villopoto won his fifth race of the season while James Stewart took second place to just barely remain in contention for the 2014 AMA Supercross title. R&G announce cheaper engine case cover kits

Tue, 06 Sep 2011

R&G Racing has reacted to the rising cost of official motorcycle parts from manufacturers by creating money saving packages on its Engine Case Covers. As a reaction to the parts price rise, the crash protection leader has created a kit package on its Engine Case Covers (ECC) – offering an overall saving of more than 10% when compared to buying the items individually. The ECCs are designed to protect the engine cases and the inner workings of the motor in the event of a drop by acting as a sturdy ‘second skin’.By simply bolting over the original items, fitting the durable Engine Case Covers doesn’t require draining any engine fluids or replacing gaskets. Extensively developed in the ACU R&G Racing Suzuki GSX-R600 Trophy, as well as being tested and approved by the California Superbike School in the UK and USA, the covers can allow a bike to be ridden after a crash or prevent terminal engine damage from oil leaks or casing punctures.Protection benefits aside, financial savings for riders are evident by looking at official parts prices; to replace only the clutch cover on a Suzuki GSX-R1000K7 would cost £206 including a new gasket, but all three R&G Engine Case Covers for this bike cost only £143.
