1999 Harley-Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide, FXDWG- Dyna Wideglide - When the first custom bike purists began stripping off parts and bolting on highbars, the distinctive look was only part of the equation. The bikes felt as powerful as they looked. So it’s only fitting that this year’s Wide Glide is powered by a Big Twin built with the same idea. The Twin Cam 88. Sit in the low, stepped seat, feet on the forward controls, fists skyward on the factory ape hangers, and it’s not hard to notice the new performance. You feel like you’re right in the center of it. The rest of the bike comes on just as strong. Wide, raked fork. 21" laced wheel. Loads of chrome. It defies convention. But with a ride like this, who cares what the rest of the world thinks.

Dave Grohl Drums to the Sound of a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle
Fri, 31 Jul 2009I’ve got a lot of respect for Dave Grohl. He’s amazingly talented and very driven. Even after Nirvana, the guy is still kicking and in the spotlight with the Foo Fighters and the millions of other side projects he’s done (ie: Queens of the Stone Age). Apparently he’s also a big motorcycle guy. Harley-Davidson did a little video on Dave, featuring him drumming on a snare drum to the exhaust pipes of a Harley-Davidson. The seven minute video goes on about how Mr Grohl bought his first motorcycle when the Nirvana album “Nevermind” started to become big.

The feeling rings true today as it did 72 years ago, when Wallace Van Sandt, of Birmingham, Alabama, took delivery of his 1941 Harley-Davidson WLD Special Sport Solo, purchased new in 1940 for $365 (roughly $5800 in today’s money) by his father as a high school graduation gift. The WLD Special Sport Solo was a ringer in its day.
