For Sale By Owner

Through the following photos and brief descriptions I attempt to show what a nice example of a "shovelhead" Harley-Davidson - Electra Glide this motorcycle is.

Please view all the photos - there are many as there is nothing to hide here - then decide if this is the classic Harley for you.

Electra Glide - the King" of motorcycles.

As shown, just 19,141 miles to date (that’s less than 550 miles per year on average.

Garage kept for this entire period by just two conscientious owners ... it shows in so many ways.

It’s ready for the road when you are.

From any angle this bike proclaims "Ain’t America Great?"
Like a big fin Caddy, this Hog just doesn’t go out of style.

AMF (American Machine and Foundry) ... manufactured Harley-Davidsons between 1969 - 1981.

A vintage magazine ad from this 1969-1981 period.

Many chrome upgrades ... all from the period.

$1,300.00 + just spent with Harley specialist to bring everything up to date.

Lobby poster from the "Electra Glide in Blue" film staring Robert Blake - 1973

2-Cylinder - FLH - 1200 cc OHV - 4-stroke - V-Twin (Shovelhead)

4-speed manual / chain drive.

Just one of the many chrome dress-ups sold through Harley-Davidson dealers of the era.

Tires and rims ... all in nice condition.

Official Harley-Davidson’ wide whitewall tires.

Disk brakes for sure stops.

A couple of detail photos ...

... of some of the many brightwork upgrades.

Another vintage ad for the Electra Glide.

1200 cc King of the Highway - Electra-Glide’ badging on each of the saddlebags.

Chrome tie-downs on the tops of each saddlebags.

I also have the original third hard-shell bag (not shown) that mounts on the chrome baggage rack.

Turn the petcock on, add a little choke if it’s cold outsid, then just twist the ignition switch ...
That’s all it takes to bring the beast to life.

Then it’s a deep potato - potato - potato’ sound as it settles in to its idle mode.

One of the flaws to this bike ...
This from a shovel handle falling against the tank while stored in the garage ... damn!

Another glaring flaw ... a broken lens on the left hand running light.

Much has been written about the Electra Glide - an truly iconic American legend.

The following photos were taken under different lighting conditions ...

... the bike shown in a different light, so to speak.

It’s a clean, well cared for, unmolested example of a classic Electra Glide’ ... well worth considering.

Notice fishtail’ pipes ... they’re straight pipes and LOUD ... Straight Pipes Save Lives’.

Keep in mind that this a well care for, but not restored 1200 cc FLH Electra Glide’.
There is some minor pitting to the chrome here and there, call it ’patina’ as well as other minor imperfections one would well expect to find on an unrestored 36 year old motorcycle.

It’s not perfect’ in every way but certainly a well cared for survivor you can take pride in for years to come.

Okay, let’s mount up. And men, remember, be careful out there.

Full disclosure is what I'm after here .... I want you to know what your buying.

This 1977 Harley-Davidson FLH Electra Glide is as fine an example of the model that one could ever expect to find. There are minor imperfections as one would well expect ... very minor indeed. Some very slight paint chips, a few very minor scratches that can't possible be shown in photos like these.
It's not new but it's very nice, indeed.

This H-D Electra Glide has never been in an accident and has never had even a hiccup throughout it ownership. There are some scratches on the sides of the crash bars that shows it has got away from someone and been laid on its side once or twice.

In recent years it has been driven mainly on the Eastern Shore of Maryland with a few trips over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to Annapolis.

This Electra Glide has always been garaged kept and regularly maintained.

Twin-engine pulsejet motorcycle. As you do..

Mon, 21 Feb 2011

The guy behind this twin-engined pulsejet motorcycle, Robert 'Bob' Maddox, fascinates me. He's a cabinet maker by trade but is somewhat an expert in the field of pulsejet engineering and has built a whole host of machines powered by the ever so subtle jet engine. This latest bike is dubbed a Harley-Davidson Sportjet, although it has nothing to do with Milwaukee and I'm not sure why H-D made it onto the tank...

Milwaukee’s The Iron Horse Hotel

Tue, 19 May 2009

Historically speaking, the kinds of places that have openly accepted or invited motorcycle enthusiasts and their bikes were lacking in a number of areas. While they may have been convenient and offered motorcycle-friendly amenities, they did so with little comfort or luxury. On the other hand, accommodations on the higher end of the spectrum were pretentious and inconvenient for storing bikes and gear.
