Very rare 1949 Spring Fork OHV 74 CI Harley Davidson FL. Motorcycle is complete as found, with title, with VERY old repaint, and surface checking all over sheet metal. This bike has a wonderful patina, and runs very strong. Motor rebuilt under stringent guidelines. Transmission shifts as new Motorcycle operates wonderfully, and frame as straight as an arrow.
Late 49 frame with flattened down tubes and rectangular horn mounts as was in constant production by serial # 10,000. Narrow style spring fork bracket with TC-20TF forging number 19, exclusive to 1949. VIN is crystal clear, line bore numbers match. VIN matches title. The history of this bike as I know it, includes first sold out of service at a police auction in the early seventies. The bike has had two owners since then, and is once again being offered for sale. The bike was one of less than 480 spring fork Panheads, so without question, an extremely rare survivor. Bike has been authenticated by top AMCA members, and is a date coded (May, 1949) 4 speed transmission. There is evidence of fender repair where siren was once mounted on rear panel. The bike is a dream to ride, and is without any argument at all, the rarest of all the Panhead production models. Reserve is fair and honest. Bonhams To Auction Wayne Pierce Family Collection Of Motorcycles Jan. 9, 2014, In Las Vegas
Fri, 04 Oct 2013On January 9, 2014, during the fourth annual Las Vegas Sale of motorcycles at Bally’s Hotel and Casino, Bonhams, the world’s largest auction house for cars, motorcycles and memorabilia, will be auctioning off over 50 motorcycles from the extensive Wayne Pierce family museum collection, all offered at no reserve. Among the machines is a first-year Harley-Davidson Sportster believed to be the 10th XL883 produced in 1957, a 1933 Harley VLE police bike that saw actual duty on the streets of Chicago before being cast in the 1987 Kevin Costner gangster movie, “The Untouchables,” and an authentic and unrestored 1947 Harley Knucklehead wearing period aftermarket accessories. Wayne “Pappy” Pierce started his Harley-Davidson dealership in 1957, run out of a one-room tin shed in DeKalb, Illinois.
Forbes Expects Harley-Davidson to Announce Gains for Q3 2011
Mon, 17 Oct 2011In anticipation of Harley-Davidson announcing its third-quarter performance in 2011 Forbes.com expects Harley will reveal its third straight quarter of sales growth. The article says that financial analysts expect “earnings of $0.76 per share, up 47.4% from the same quarter of last year.” Additionally, an 18.8% gain in revenues is expected. Interestingly, the article refers to Harley’s motorcycles as “luxury items,” and as such sees Harley’s increased sales and profit as a possible harbinger of an improving U.S.
2014 Harley-Davidson Sportsters Receive ABS and Keyless Security Options
Mon, 19 Aug 2013Harley-Davidson revealed a five-model Sportster lineup for 2014 with some minor updates including new options for ABS and the H-D Smart Security System. The 2014 Sportster line consists of the 883cc SuperLow and Iron 883 and the 1200cc Forty-Eight, Seventy-Two and 1200 Custom. All five models received new brakes, with larger 300mm front rotors replacing the old 292mm discs.
