Yamaha XS description

***1981 Yamaha XS1100 Midnight Special (1 of only 250 ever made!)***

                                  Fall Special-Low reserve!

For sale is this awesome Yamaha XS 1100 Midnight Special.  If you are unaware of how rare these actually are, you should probably do some research before you bid.  This is one of only 500 ever, and one of only 250 for 1981!   Not only one of the rarest production Yamahas ever, one of the rarest production early Super-bikes as well---EVER!!!  Based on the company's big XS1100 sport-tourer introduced in the late 1970s, the 1981 Yamaha 1100 Midnight Special motorcycle differs from other Super-Bikes of the era in having a traditional Japanese inline four-cylinder engine rather than the trendy V-twin.  It also featured shaft drive, likewise carried over from the XS.  While an extended fork, teardrop tank, and stepped saddle made it clear this was a cruiser, the double-overhead-cam four-cylinder engine gave it powerful performance unmatched by contemporary V-twins.  95 BHP and a blistering 112 MPH quarter mile time!

Parts that would normally be chromed were covered in "black chrome," such as the exhaust pipes and handlebars, or "gold chrome," as were the air-cleaner cover and rear grab rail.

But while the cruiser trend continued, Yamaha's various Midnight Specials had a fairly short run. And in the case of the 1100, it was also a small run.

With just 250 built for 1980 and another 250 in 1981, they are rare commodities today.

This one is all original and un-restored, it runs great and has only 24000 miles showing on the odometer.  It’s not perfect but is a VERY nice survivor.  Tires are in great shape, no leaks anywhere, no unusual engine noises, everything works as it should including ALL electronics, and still has all of the original equipment.  It does have some minor scratches in the paint but there are no dents in the tank and no cracks in the side covers.  Inside the tank is like brand new with zero sign of any corrosion.  Some of the black chrome is showing signs of pitting but nothing is rusty or rotted out. No rips or tears in the seat, either.  Miles showing are believed to be original miles.  Engine numbers and frame numbers match!

Feel free to call me in advance if you have any questions.  Phil 724-866-2571

Another Day at the Office for Yamaha MotoGP Stars – Video

Fri, 27 Jul 2012

Back in 2009, Yamaha released an entertaining video featuring MotoGP racers Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Colin Edwards and James Toseland working on various mundane jobs at Yamaha Motor USA headquarters. Three years later, Yamaha has released a follow-up featuring its current MotoGP lineup of Lorenzo, Ben Spies, Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso (with King Kenny Roberts lunchbox in tow). Tech3 Yamaha racer Crutchlow takes over his predecessor Edwards’ spot as a Yamaha security guard, but throws his own British spin on the job.

This Is What Comes Before The Yamaha PW50

Kids really do have it good these days. Case in point is this super stylish motocross-themed push bicycle found in the Yamaha Europe catalog. Parents out there are probably well aware of these bikes without pedals, but as someone without kids this is a new discovery for me.
