2012 BMW R1200GS Rallye Special Edition

The Rallye Special Edition was the final, limited production, version of the classic air-cooled BMW GS series. It’s generally agreed that it is the most attractive R1200 GS, the red frame and Alpine White paint being evocative of former Dakar winners.

This particular motorcycle is a very well equipped, superbly maintained example. Never used as a commuter, the mileage was accumulated on several happy, trouble-free nationwide tours.

The Rallye edition, beside the special paint, also includes hand guards, cylinder head guards, a new seat, chrome exhaust, decals, etc.

More importantly the bike has the highly regarded Enduro ESA electronic suspension adjustment system, an on-board computer and information display, hand guards, and heated grips, as well as ABS.

Beyond all that, this particular motorcycle has benefited from the addition of several valuable upgrades. It has a full three box set of BMW Adventure panniers with factory liner bags. Add to that, the more comfortable Adventure foot pegs, and the optional BMW GPS Navigation system. There is also a Cen-Tech fuse kit installed to allow use of multiple devices on the BMW CANBUS system. Finally, a clear headlight protector has been applied. As you can see this is a perfect setup for a touring GS.

Also included in the sale is:
Owners Manual and Maintenance Book
Haynes Service Manual
12V air pump
Tire plug kit
BMW crossbar pad
Replacement bulb kit
Complete original tool kit
Original trim parts for when the bags are removed

With the exception of a pair of small scrapes on the cylinder head and guard from a pair of slow spills on gravel (see photo), the bike looks nearly new. The paint is shiny, the chrome unmarked, and the seat perfect.

I am helping a lifelong friend (over 50 years!) sell this motorcycle. He has determined that his long distance touring days are behind him and he must sell his faithful ride. He is a retired BMW Master Technician, the first so designated in the US, and a BMW owner since the early 1970’s. So you know this BMW has benefited from complete maintenance by the book.

This is a no reserve auction. The opening bid is about $5,000 below the NADA average retail price for this model.

The motorcycle is currently in my climate controlled garage along with all the extras. It has just received an oil change (always Mobil One) and new filter. The Metzeler Tourances have about 50% tread remaining, good for 5-6,000 miles. I am in possession of his clear Florida title, and it is ready for a new owner to enjoy.

I will not ship, but will assist the buyer’s shipper to whatever degree possible. However, the new owner might well consider flying into Jacksonville and riding this fully road-ready GS home. I will happily provide transportation from JAX if required.

I welcome any questions you might have and, if desired, can arrange for seriously interested parties to examine the bike.
