1967 Sears Gilera 106 Super Sport

This is a 1967 Sears Gilera 106 SS in original unrestored condition. Motorcycles are only original once and this bike is very close to being totally original. The only items that I have changed, since owning the bike in 2010, is that I installed brand new Michelin Gazelle tires in the front and back and I polished the engine cases. Also the mirror is not original, it was made in Japan. Other than tires, cases and mirror… this bike is totally original.  It has only 2247 total miles – that is less than an average 50 miles per year for this 49 year old bike. The rims have small evidence of pitting, but that should be expected on fifty year old chrome plating. The original seat cover has no rips or fading and looks brand new. The rubber on the hand grips, foot pegs, gear shifter and kick starter lever are in exceptional condition.  It appears someone had installed black electrical tape around the rear foot brake lever, but that can be easily removed and painted, if desired. It even has a very neat “tool box” located behind the engine – see close up picture. It has the original Dellorto carburetor and still has the original air cleaner and original decal on the back of the air cleaner that is remarkably clean for it’s age.

This rare motorcycle has a 106cc displacement, four speed gearshift, left foot kick starter, right side foot shift and left side foot brake. The top speed is 65 mph. It does not have a battery, as it runs on a magneto. Has plenty of compression and the gas tank is very clean. This is very collectible motorcycle as they were only made and sold through Sears mail order catalog system for a few years. They were made in Italy by Gilera and came partially assembled in a crate – complete with paperwork and final assembly instructions.

The Gilera motorcycle company dates back to 1909 when Giuseppe Gilera built his first bike and in 1969 they became part of the Piaggo Group. Gilera motorcycles dominated the Grand Prix racing in the post WWII era.

Back in the 1950’s and 60’s you could buy almost anything through the Sears catalog. Sears sold a lot of motorcycles and scooters during that time period, mostly from Puch and Gilera. You could get everything from a little 50cc moped to a 250cc Puch ‘Twingle’. One of the most popular was this Gilera 106cc Super Sport. It was light, easy to ride, and at the time, inexpensive - as they only cost $389.00. The 106 SS has a perfect little cafe racer platform, is a great Moto Giro bike and really just a neat little motorcycle. In doing my research, I found that there are a large number of user groups and forums about the Sears Allstate Gilera’s. Not to mention that parts are still pretty easy to find, so if you do find yourself the owner of this “Italian Stallion”, you’ll have a lot of help and support. Summer is here and you possibly may have had this same bike as a child growing up – my first bike was a 1970 Honda CT 70 Mini Trail.

Please do not ask me what the reserve price is because I will not tell you and it is not fair to other potential buyers. But I will tell you, that it is very reasonably priced for an original and very rare Italian made motorcycle in exceptional condition. These late 60’s Sears Gilera motorcycles in original condition are going for over $3,000, IF, you can find them and I will tell you that my reserve is well below that amount. Original 50 year old motorcycles hardly ever come up for sale and especially rare late sixties Sears Gilera’s like this one.

The motorcycle will be sold as-is, with no warranties implied and it comes with a valid California title that is not in my name and has been signed and dated by the owner in 2005. Most vintage bikes do not even come with titles, but this bike does have a title, but, it was signed 11 years ago. California DMV may charge you late fees, so if you are going to put in your name in the State of California – please accept the chance that there may be late fees… but I am not sure, because it could be off DMV records. Please see picture of title, registration and the brand new license plate and stickers that was never applied to the bike. You will also notice from the title that the VIN number and engine number are only off by 30 digits (10618800 versus 10618770) which indicates that it is a “matching number” motorcycle.

I acquired the bike six years ago with the signed title and registration. I started it and rode it less than a mile and have not driven it since. I drained the gas from the tank and carburetor right after that short ride. A few years back, I installed the brand new tires and installed a new Gilera decal on the rear fender. The other Made in Italy and gas tank decals are original. It has been inside my house since I obtained the bike and drained the gas.

Please check my EBay feedback history. I have over 200 positive feedbacks and it is at 100% satisfaction for a reason and ninety five percent of my EBay sales are related to motorcycles, motorcycle parts or mini bikes. I have been riding, racing, restoring and collecting motorcycles for over 45 years. See my EBay profile picture of me on a 1975 Honda 125 Elsinore at a recent Lake Elsinore Grand Prix race.

I also have several transport contacts and can get this Sears Gilera  transported almost anywhere in the United States for much less than most motorcycle transporters and USHIP. I also have transported motorcycles to Australia and Europe and I have no issues selling to anyone out of the country. I know of several international transporters and I will charge only $150 to get the bike to the transporter/logistics and fifty cents a mile both ways – you have to pay the transporter to get it over the ocean, but I will assist with the logistics and finding a shipper. I will also deliver this bike for fifty cents a mile, both ways, anywhere in Southern California.

As you can tell from the pictures, this is a great bike to have.  This bike is as about as close to how it came from the Italian factory as you can get. Remember… motorcycles are only original once. Please contact me with any questions or if you would like other pictures.

Please check out my other Ebay motorcycle listings – a restored 1968 Honda Z50A, a restored 1969 Hodaka Ace 100 Motocross bike and a Paxton supercharged convertible 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra – one of only 1000 made. As well as a variety of motorcycle parts and accessories that are being sold for much less than most motorcycle parts on EBay. Please notice an exceptionally restored Rickman fiberglass gas tank with petcock and cap, a brand new Harley Davidson tail bag, brand new Michelin tires and a restored Yamaha Mini Enduro exhaust.

If you are new to eBay, then you may not be aware that your bid means you are buying what you are bidding on.   If you have less than ten feedbacks you must contact me to let me know that you are serious about completing the sale or I will cancel your bid.   Please bid only if you really want this rare motorcycle. Don’t be a flake.

I am not desperate to sell, am not a dealer, I don't do this for a living, I am a motorcycle enthusiast. If you'd like any detailed photos of a specific area of the bike, just ask! Please ask any questions you like before bidding. You will be answered quickly and honestly. With all the bikes I own or have owned over the years, I know how disappointing it is when someone over-sells a bikes condition so you may be sure I won't do that to you. I have disclosed and will gladly provide photos of all known defects for your inspection.

I reserve the right to end this auction at any time in order to sell this item locally as well or this bike will go to the highest bidder over my reserve price here on Ebay!
