Vintage 1972 Penton 175 Jackpiner KTM AHRMA John Penton Enduro ISDE ISDT

Up for sale is a vintage 1972 Penton 175 Jackpiner enduro.  Frame # is 20655667 and engine # is 2-5200613.  According to various Penton websites, the bike has a build date of June 1972 and the engine decodes as a 175 built in 1972.  I would say the frame and the engine match.

I would call this a survivor bike.  The person I purchased it from said it was in the family since it was new and owned by various family members.  It has been ridden like a dirt bike.  Im sure parts have been changed, upgraded, modified, or moved around.  The bike was kept in dry storage for a number of years.  It has been dusty and some of the fluids leaked over the years and covers some of the forks and engine.

The original fenders look to be long gone.  Both the front and the rear have been replaced by plastic aftermarket ones at some time.  They are worn and have been used alot.

The wheels look to be period correct.  The chrome is flaking off in areas.  They look to be solid and usable, but will need to be rechromed.  Tires are aged.  They would be okay for rolling around the shop, but not for riding or competition.

The seat cover has come off the seat.  It looks worse than what it really is.  The seat more than likely dried out, then was sat on, and came apart.  The cover has not come off from sitting outside for long periods of time.  The rear leather bag is still attached and has great patina.

The fuel tank looks to be really nice.  No major issues I can see.  The leather strap still looks to be solid.  The decals are worn.

The exhaust pipe looks pretty solid.  Years of two stroke oil looks have to preserved it.  Does not appear to be bent or mangled.  The twin shooter silencer cap is still in place as is the heat shield.

The front headlight has been removed.  It looks to me that at some time in its life, someone crashed and bent the light brackets up.  The brackets are long gone.  The headlight is included.  The wiring looks to have been torn in places.  The bike has a brake light on it.  Im not sure if it is corrrect.  The lense is off, but is included.

The speedometer looks to be correct.  But I believe it too was damaged in the accident I mentioned above.  The bracket is included.

The bike currently does not run.  I was told by the previous owner that it did, but I have not personally seen it run.  It has good compression.  I could not get a spark, but the wiring looks to have been either melted on the engine or an animal got to them.  The carb moved and snapped back when I pulled on the throttle cable. The carb will probably need a rebuild from sitting. The bike will need new throttle and brake cables.  They are stretched and I have not worked on them.  The brakes and clutch work like they should.  The wiring will need to be attended to.  I believe a mouse or something got to them.

I looked the frame over and did not see any places where it may have been broken and repaired.  The lower skid plate may be a little tweaked, but it did its job.

The tools that were found in the tool pouch are included.  Not sure if they are genuine Penton or from something else.

Overall a good candidate for restoration.  I do have a title.  I can also provide a Kansas bill of sale.

I am flexible on payment types, so let me know what works for you.  $100 non refundable deposit due with three days of auction end.  The rest is due at pickup.
