The Institute of Adventure Research

Fri, 17 Feb 2012

There's something incredibly British about The Ice Run adventure. It was an idea dreamt up by Tom Morgan, Founder-in-Chief of - get this - The Institute of Adventure Research, the 'research arm' of a group called The Adventurists. Brilliant!

The idea is simple: Take a second-hand Ural sidecar and try and get it across 1,000 miles of Siberia in 10 days. No set route, no backup, just you and your mate in the passenger seat.

This is a great line from the press blurb: "Organisers The Adventurists believe that real adventure can only be had when you make things intentionally difficult."

It sounds very Monty Python, I love it.

In its inaugural year, 12 teams have entered and each will raise £1000 for the charity of their choice. Just how many of them will make it to the finish line is yet to be known. You can see more here: www.theadventurists.com
