Find or Sell Motorcycles & Scooters in USA

Report: Ducati Technology in Future Audi Two-Wheeler

Tue, 17 Jul 2012

Audi‘s acquisition of Ducati is still yet to be finalized but that hasn’t stopped the automaker from discussing a possible product of their union.

Speaking at the opening of the new Audi City digital showroom in London, Audi sales and marketing Chief Peter Schwarzenbauer hinted a two-wheeled Audi is on its way, with Ducati playing a vital role in “future mobility solutions” for urban travelers. Schwarzenbauer tells British car site Autocar the new motorcycle or scooter will not simply be a “Ducati wearing an Audi badge.”

The phrases “future mobility solution” and “urban” are usually used together when discussing scooters, so an Audi scooter may be more likely than a motorcycle. Audi’s two German rivals, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have started to delve into scooter territory in recent years.

Mercedes-Benz announced in May it will introduce an electric scooter under its Smart brand by 2014. BMW recently added a couple of maxi-scooters to its Motorrad lineup in the C600 Sport and C650GT, and is working on an electric version. BMW also recently produced an electric scooter concept under its Mini brand.

Ducati may be best known for its high-performance sportbikes these days but the Italian manufacturer has produced scooters in the past. Pictured above is the Ducati Brio 48, first produced in 1963.
