Husqvarna Baja Concept Unveiled at New York IMS

Fri, 20 Jan 2012

Husqvarna has unveiled a new dual-sport concept at the New York stop of the 2012 International Motorcycle Shows.

At first glance, the Husqvarna Baja Concept appears similar to the Moab concept unveiled at the 2011 EICMA Show last November. Both models are aesthetically inspired by Husqvarna motorcycles from the ’70s and especially Steve McQueen‘s Husqvarna H400 famously immortalized on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Both the Husqvarna Baja and Moab concepts are powered by fuel-injected liquid-cooled 650cc Single engines, likely sourced from parent company BMW‘s G650GS. Other common features include a perimeter frame, progressive linkage swingarm, Brembo brakes, LED crossbar instrument display and an LED headlight integrated into the number plate.

Unlike the Moab, the Husqvarna Baja concept has an off-road style fender and a  19-inch front wheel, compared to the Moab’s 17-inch front wheel.

That Husqvarna has shown two similar concept models in such a short time period would suggest a production version of the Baja or the Moab will be coming along shortly. The fact the Baja was unveiled in New York especially bodes well for U.S. availability of the future production model as well.
