Honda CRF450R Gets Further Refined for 2014

The CRF250R received a significant update for 2014, including a new frame and dual-exhaust setup first introduced in the CRF450R  which itself received a substantial update year. The current-generation CRF450R may only be a year old, but that didn’t stop Honda from introducing a couple of refinements for 2014.

For 2014, Honda had tweaked the engine, adding new intake and exhaust ports and a new dual-timing fuel injection setup. According to Honda, these updates combined with redesigned internal components to its two exhausts should offer more torque and increase throttle response.

The 48mm KYB pneumatic forks introduced last year have also been refined with revised rebound pistons/center rods and new oil lock guides to improve oil flow and damping. Honda says the updated fork is 25 grams (0.88 ounces) lighter than last year’s forks. Just like last year, the air forks offer adjustable rebound and compression damping while preload can be adjusted by changing the air pressure. The rear suspension remains unchanged, using the same fully-adjustable KYB rear shock.

Honda also installed new clutch springs offering a lighter pull at the lever while remaining as durable as the heavier springs used in the 2013 model.

The 2014 Honda CRF450R will be available in stores in August. Pricing has not been announced at this point.
