First Official Sketch of the MV Agusta Rivale

Wed, 31 Oct 2012

What you see here is the first official sketch released by MV Agusta of the new Rivale, which is expected to be unveiled during EICMA 2012 and available to the public around Fall 2013.

Powering the new Rivale is an 800cc version of the 675cc triple currently seen in the F3 and Brutale 675 models. A larger bore (81mm vs. 79mm) accounts for the bump in displacement. What we can see from this sketch are some clear Ducati influences throughout. The rear section, with its split tail lights and license plate bracket are reminiscent of the Diavel, while the bikini fairing in front and hand guards resemble those of the Hypermotard. Coincidence?

Despite these areas which bear a striking resemblance to MV Agusta’s cross-town rival, there are certain aspects which solidify its MV identity. The red/white color combination is unmistakably MV, while the side-exit, F3-like, triple exhaust pipes leave little doubt as to the Rivale’s lineage. If the sketch is any indication, the Rivale will be equipped with high-end components like Ohlins suspension and Brembo radial-mount calipers.

With a revamped Brutale 1090 range set for 2013, and the discontinuation of the Brutale 920 in favor of the Brutale 675, it and the Rivale will be directly competing for marketshare against Ducati’s Streetfighter and Hypermotard. We’ll have more information on the 2013 MV Agusta Rivale and many others once EICMA begins mid-November.
