BRP Recalls 2010 Can-Am Spyder RT for Brake Pedal Flaw

Mon, 16 Apr 2012

Bombardier Recreational Products is issuing a recall campaign on 2010 Can-Am Spyder RT roadsters because of a risk of brake failure.

According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a pin used to secure the brake pedal connecting rod may disengage and fall off, resulting in a total loss of brake function.

BRP received three reports of a loss of braking ability. The first incident occurred in June 2011 in Canada, the second in Finland in July 2011, and the third incident in the U.S. in February 2012. None of the reports resulted in a crash or injuries. BRP initiated an investigation after receiving the first two reports, and the third incident helped to identify the source of the problem.

Dealers will replace the connecting rod pins for the brake pedals on affected units. The recall campaign affects 3,259 units, including the base model Can-Am Spyder RT, the RT Audio and Convenience and the RT-S.
