2015 BMW K1600GT and K1600GTL Get Traction Control as Standard Equipment

Fri, 04 Jul 2014

BMW is updating its big six-cylinder touring bikes with traction control as standard equipment and a number of new optional add-ons including keyless remote ignition.

Previously available as part of BMW’s factory-installed Safety Package option, the Dynamic Traction Control system will now be standard on all 2015 K1600GT and K1600GTL models. The system continuously monitors rear wheel traction during acceleration, stepping in when it senses excessive wheel spin. The ex-works Safety Package option will still be available, adding daytime running lights and hill climb assist.

New for 2015 is a Keyless Ride remote system. The key has an integrated transponder that works when it is within two meters of the K1600GT or K1600GTL. Once it is within range, the rider can start the engine, engage or disengage the steering lock, open the fuel filler or open the storage compartments.

Where you would normally find the key slot, you’ll instead find a single button. To lock the steering, simply hold down the button while turning the front wheel into position, then release. The steering unlocks by pressing the button again. With the steering unlocked, pressing the button briefly starts the engine.

For 2015, BMW will offer the GT in Black Storm Metallic or Light White. The GTL will be offered in Black Storm Metallic or Glacier Silver Metallic.

U.S. pricing and availability will be announced at a later date.
