Yamaha XS description

XS1100 for sale with clear title.  Bike has had the following maintenance done over the last four weeks:

  • Valve adjustment
  • New intake boots
  • Rebuilt carburetors to include all new vacuum and fuel lines with inline fuel filters.  Carbs were taken off the rack and ultrasonically cleaned in Simple Green solution and all varnish was safely removed.
  • Air box was cleaned and I replaced the air filter with a K&N hi flow filter.
  • New Dunlop F404 tires
  • New battery
  • New radio that with an auxiliary Ipod jack
  • Fresh 20-50 Valvoline full synthethic motorcycle oil
  • New K&N oil filter and new orings.
The bike runs great and has excellent throttle response.  The bike shifts like butter through the gears and pulls strong to red line.  Doesn't leak any oil.  Inside of tank is rust free and exceptionally clean.  It does not appear to have ever been down and it is straight as an arrow - you can take you arms off the handlebars and it does not pull in any direction.

  • Body work is excellent.  There are a couple of chips in the paint, but it looks way above average for the year.  The color matched WindJammer fairing is also in excellent condition. There are no dents in tank or in chrome.  Chrome on the front and rear fenders is beautiful.  The KG rack on the back with topcase is also in excellent condition and I have the key to unlock the case as well as remove it from the bike.
  • Has cruise control (it is just a thumb tensioner that holds the throttle in position but it works well and serves its function).
  • Has highway pegs and crash bars - both can easily be removed.
  • The mufflers are after-market slip-ons and they are very nice.  They have a crossover pipe like the original mufflers and I don't believe these after market mufflers are available anymore.
  • Gauges are clear and function correctly.
  • The needs are few - it could use new fork seals as they are weeping a bit - I may get around to doing this or I will provide new seals with whoever buys the bike.
  • Bike comes with original owners manual, factory service manual and tool kit.  Will include an extra K&N oil filter. I will throw in 4 quarts of the Valvoline oil I used.
Anyway, this is an excellent vintage touring rig.  It could very easily be converted back to a standard. It is very easy to remove the windjammer and the fork ears are on the bike.  This bike was not for the faint of heart as it was tested to do the 1/4 mile in the eleven second range back in the day.  But yes, it is tame for today's standard.

Send me an email and let me know if you have any questions.  If you come to inspect it and it is not to your liking you can walk away.  I'm very confident you will like what you see in person.

Yamaha Wraps Up Sepang MotoGP Test

Thu, 02 Feb 2012

Pre-season test lap times aren’t a precise barometer for how the 2012 MotoGP Championship season will go, but Yamaha has to feel good about its results after this week’s testing at Malaysia’s Sepang circuit. Last February at Sepang, Honda riders were the talk of the preseason session, taking three of the top four lap times on each day of the test. That pattern repeated itself in the final championship standings with Casey Stoner taking the championship, Dani Pedrosa finishing third and Andrea Dovizioso fourth.
